For the price and time taken to rebuild the carb is it not just worthwhile skipping and replacing it?

I would start by checking fuel lines very carefully especially around the hose barb on the carb to make sure there is no splits or even cracks in hose barbs, I had that on a previous carb.

you being sarcastic sean ? :ROFLMAO:
I quite enjoy it, amd it doesn't take a lot of time to do one up.

Um $50.00 for a carb, what $17.00 for a kit, if you splurge and get the spiral diaphram, and a kit your still under half a kit and may he 1/2 hour of your time. Then you know it's set up right. Nah not me I'll rebuild till something is actually wrong with it.

your lean run was likely your issue, and it looks like bare metal mark on the top of the piston, also with the scoring id assume you had it running pig rich and likely had some carbon break loose as well.i also see some plating missing from the intake side. I'm sure it would run, but not near as good as it should. Top end time imo.
