Engine Temps

What are normal engine running temps and from where on the engine are you checking it?I saw somewhere 500f at base of plug is mac before damage,is this true?

Others that are more experienced will chime in but my understanding is that around 250 is a good operating temp. To be honest though I’ve never bothered to see what the temperature of my engine was while running

I have a temp gun and was curious, I usually see about 250f max ever was 310f.

My twin is the only motor iv monitored 160c or 320f is a safe range??

Good to know never been there yet, where do you measure it at?plug base,fins?

Yeah I hear the shroud helps cool the engine and not to remove it.

At the base of the plug is the best, but honestly it's not critical to worry about. The engine will let you know when it gets hot.

If your going to smother your engine with everything else ,like body ,body panels an other things ,you should not
remove the shroud!

I wouldn't give up that easy guys. It would mean a new reed motor could go in. ?

I had these types of engines smoking hot ,they can take a lot of heat! ,been working on them for all most 30 years!

I was asking about temps because on another forum someone posted a email reply from the engine maker and they said keep under 482F Max measured on the case at the base of the spark plug.

That is a lot of heat ,an can be generated even with a shroud over the engine ,if the engine does generate that kind of heat ,I would
defenitly monitor temps an if an engine does get close to that range ,I would clear any thing out that blocks air flow!
