On my nitro rigs, whenever I oiled an air filter, I would put it in a ziploc bag, soak it and squeeze it. While in the bag, the squeezing and kneading would fully permeate the foam filter and you could squeeze out all the excess. The Raminator foam filter has a spring inside so this is by no means a feasible way to do it.
I put it in a bag work the oil in, then with gloves on slowly work around the spring till the oil is fully permeated in the foam. My question is, I have no means of squeezing or working out any excess oil. I know too much oil can cause rich fuel mixture...so when is there "too much" foam filter oil on the filter? Should I use a paper towel and squeeze it against the foam to pull extra out?
What is the thought around this?

My uni filter for the 5ive has a spring as well so I just rub the oil in till I see it soaking through and then I just smush the filter a few times on a rag till it stops bleeding oil ?‍♂️

Old Tupperware bowl with fluid , wear some rubber gloves, drop the filter in , soak, squeeze off the excess. Done. If you have any areas of filter that mate the foam to the plastic filter housing where air could get past, seal the surface with thick grease. You would be amazed at how easily dirt can get sucked past the foam. I know this from unexpected blown crank bearings many years ago. .

Yes ways good to grease the edges of filters.

I also have this question with the dt1 filters. Do I just oil the outside, I always used the two stage filters and only oiled the inner element. I was just thinking that dirt will cake the whole outside of the filter.

Myself just out of pure habit from all my MX filter maintenance I have always oiled both the inner and outer. Is it totally necessary ? I don't know. Most importantly is make absolutely sure fine grit will NOT get pulled into the carb.

Has anyone tried the Castrol foam filter oil in the pressure pack can?
I've been thinking about using that instead of the baggie way.

A buddy who raced moto x then flat track gave me some PJ1 in an aerosol along with the cleaner to try. I thought the cleaner was going to be a rip off just to make ?, but I was pleasantly surprised how effective it was. I have since bought the maxima aerosol and cleaner and am very happy with it. He said all the major brands were similar quality.

He told me to apply it to both layers.

Thanks for the info.
I'll give it a go.
