Thanks @Phill2 I too thought it was a redcat "clone" and I tried finding the hsp blackout and im a little hung up on the FG style arms that this one looks to have and the redcat lacks. Im not sure of the age of the truck as a coworkers friend bought it for 100 bucks and it needing a pullstart.

Redcat which is actually made by HSP basically aren't a bad way to get into the hobby.
Like everything else they need upgrades but are basically pretty tough.
I have 2 Dunerunners (HSP Bajer) one 2WD and the other a 4WD.

Is it the 4WD one?
A mate of mine had the 2WD version.
It had plenty of power but couldn't get it to the ground - just did burnouts.
I think he ended up swapping it for a nitro.

Yeah looks like FS, looks very similar to my TAMCO X5 too, have a spy on nitrotek website at the Hummer etc and you'll spot the same design. Parts are easy to come by, they are a cheap rig but easily maintained and parts easy to come by.
Also check out the Reely Carbon Fighter, the parts fit and I believe is what they are mostly cloned from.

There are some aluminium arms etc available and are OK, but not worth changing from the plastic, same for ball joints, stick to plastic.

I had a firehammer. Didn't except all Marder parts and were impossible to find. If this is anything like that it will just give your friend nightmares. When you can buy a used 5B for $200-$350 there's just no point in wasting time on that thing. Hold out for something else is my advice, take it or leave it :p
