had to change the whole lot mate :( i bought the 4-stud top end 29cc kit (while waiting for the baja to be delivered), however when you closely examine the top face of the bottom end and the bottom face of the block - they're not the same, machined to have a slightly different flow. so ya gonna have to get a zenoah matching bottom end too. i bought mine from largescalerc.com they had them there anyway, was here on my doorstep in the UK in only a few days too, great service! i bought the bottom end kit to match, also splashed out for a crank and all the other bits too, that way i've got the 23cc engine still complete and good for a spare!! (which is now being put to use in an FG buggy I've made)

Meant to say, you can get a CY 29cc big block kit that's a 2-bolt fitting, that'll go straight into the bottem end of the DZY engine ;) it's cheaper too and no doubt more readily available :)

is there someone else near you who has a largescale rc car? just wondering if they'd be kind enough to lend your car, part-by-part, and replace each engine component and then try. like a process of elimination. so anything exterior of the engine (carb, venturi block, coil, spark plug). check ya gaskets inbetween each part of the air intake system.. the final gasket on mine was upside down (sits between the engine block and the insulator block), covering the small port on the engines' intake. worked fine n dandy after that! could be a multitude if things mate to be honest, electrical breakdown from heat?? best find some other parts and swap n try one by one.

Ok, changed the head, piston for a 29cc item all gaskets the intake manifold, and it's is now even worse than ever. It starts fine but idles are proper erratic? Sprayed wd40 around carb area and it made no difference?! Anyone any ideas?

Did you get the intake manifold (carb isolator) gasket put on properly? There are 2 small pulse holes that need to be clear to excite the fuel pump... Pull the carb and isolator back off, I can almost guarantee that's what it is. Unless your carb settings are WAY off.

Yeah pulses, these particular 2-stroke engines actually breath in and out through the carb. As both trip and I said, remove the carb again and the insulator block (chunky plastic bit) which is between the carb and engine, look at the gasket between the insulator block and the engine, and the carb to insulator block for that matter too, the hole in the gasket which corresponds to the bottom hole of the engines' block should be clear.
What 29cc did u get? CY or zenoah? How many head bolts does it have, 4 or 2? If it's a zenoah 4-bolt head you'll need zenoah crankcase, I mentioned about the machining of the crankcase In another thread compared to the block, it's different to a CY and needs to be matched or else the air and fuel mixture won't flow around the crank and up...:)

Did u use the standard dzy carb with the 29cc? I noticed on my dzy it has a very small bore compared to a normal walbro carb (the main big hole in the middle) so it's gonna struggle to effectively breath for a 29cc... I've fitted a walbro, much better. That way the carb can be set up to accommodate the larger cc.

It was a 2 bolt cy unit, sorry I should have made myself clear. When I get engine started it idles high for a second then fine for a bit longer then high again. I will pull carb off again tomorrow and take some pics/video if poss. On the sq baja carb is the factory setting same as Hpi?

Here...

This motor hasn't been started in over a year and a half...

Yours should start just like this... If it doesn't it's too lean.

If it's too lean you need to figure out why.

Here is the carb isolator. On this style gasket you can't put it on backwards, but most gaskets can be installed backward so the pulser holes are plugged not allowing the fuel pump to work properly. The small holes on the top and bottom need to line up with the holes in the isolator. If they are plugged, your motor won't run for poop.

If you can, post a vid of what it's doing, it's so much easier to see and hear what's going on than for you to "Tell" me what's happening.

Sorry Man, I didn't even read your post before I commented about the carb isolator... I wasn't tryin to step on any toes...

Today I pulled the carb off and all seemed ok, but I did take the carb apart and make sure everything was nice n snug. Put it back together and it seems to be ok now, had a little problem idling but a tweak of jets/idle sorted that. I've put a pic of the gasket from carb to manifold and there should be a video too of it right after putting it back together. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know how it goes when I can finally get an open field to tear up!!!

yep, that gasket's deffo the right way! try and find a walbro carb mate which'll suit the 29cc much better than the DZY carb (the apature's too small really), engine needs to breath alot easier than a 23cc.

so, now you've done the capacity, you gonna get a tuned pipe n all? i bought the same as what's fitted to the bajaSS, and it's great. sounds good, not mega loud (which was what I was after) and can still yield a decent increase in performance too :-)
keep us informed mate!!

Yup, I have that same pipe!! I will indeed keep you informed, did you see the video? How you think it sounds?

no mate, it wouldn't work on the computer i'm using at the mo'...??? i dunno, i'm not the best with computers.

i've just finished building another FG, i've had that many spares over the years, and with practically a whole MB left over from the 4x4 conversion i did, i thought i'd make one. just need the carbs' small throttle lever and it'll be alive!!

also ordered a walbro 813 carb for the baja and its zenoah 29cc lump, anyone got one of these? any noticeable difference?
