so i have 4 perfect condition grey wheels but i want black rims.. 80 bucks for a pair of black rims i just can't justify yet so the question who here has dyed rc plastic and how well does it work... i have read and even seen the results in person from others but since plastic could vary from company to company im curious to hear if anyone here has dyed losi 5ive wheels? Also curious if the dyed plastic scratches or gets a scrape does the original color show through

I have dyed beadlocks a few times, and it's pretty easy. Heat the water to boiling or near boiling, dump a fek load of dye in, and stick the wheel in . Time will vary, my beadlocks took less then 10 mins I believe, not sure about full wheels tho. And it works well, only thing is , it will definitely scratch off if you wack a curb or something. Btw, you can only go darker in color, you can't really go lighter.

@Z.hb71 that looks pretty dam good.. you have answered my key point of durability, im not interested if it will wear off i was hoping it would penetrate the plastic further than just the outside..like cleaning, sand abrasion, bristle brush

Use a poop load of salt in the water too it helps with the dye.I would say on grey the black will look really dark.I dyed a bunch of orange parts black and they had a very very slight brown highlight to them but with grey they should come out really well.

I have dyed a ton of RC stuff. Works great! I do mine as follows not to trash pots and pans. I get a heavy duty aluminum pan big enough for my project fill it with boiling water from another pot. Put it on my stove and keep heat on it to keep it just steaming..not boiling. I add 1-2 bottles of RIT liquid dye depending on how big the item(s) are I am dying. I then put the parts on and ensure they are fully covered. I let sit until desired depth / darkness of color. I do tend to flip them once or twice as well just to ensure even coat and no issues. I usually use a wire or something so I can easily fish or pull them out. Rinse on warm water til water runs clear and let air dry cool. Boom! Project done! I have only dyed stuff to black..but it lasts forever and is 100% permanent. Never used salt, but heard it can help with the process. On my basher E Revo 2.0, dyed the rocker arms on the suspension black and my boot clips for my pillow ball covers. 2 completely different plastics, and same great results!20200311_123504.jpg

So i dyed my rims and it came out better than I expected... so for the additives of salt it was more toward the softer fibers of clothes and vinegar was for the more synthetic fibers in clothing. I used vinegar in my bath.. soaked for 20 minutes a pair with flipping them every 5 minutes...and i scratch tested them and no bleed through.20201022_184033.webp
