hi guys :)

ok a while ago i had a problem where my engine would stall then wouldnt start back up.

So oi decided to replace a few parts incl:

New 668 carb
New Fuel tank
New head gasket & piston ring
New Battery

to name a few..

then it seemed to be ok for the next couple of times i used my MB, then as most of you know i was close to giving up on largescale & was gunna sell my FG so didint use it for a good 5-6 months. Anyway last week took it to the track, no problems (but in saying this only had 2 or 3 runs & diditn even use a full tank up).

Today went out again to the track, 1st few runs was fine. would start up with no probs etc, then on my last run it stalled (the curse was fkin back!) ..tried to start it for ages...gave up!

Got home.. checked the fuel cap with the breather hole..all clear, taken spark plug out & tried a new one, still no go. With the spark plug out got some tissue and bunged it in the hole & pulled it over few times incase it was flooded & this is what i think the problem is, lots of unburnt fuel on tissue & strong smell of it?

So for the next 15-20 mins.. i just kept pulling the pull start as each time i could hear that the enging was trying to kick in more & more after each pull (a sure sign of flooding as it was getting rid of the unburnt fuel each pull so it was trying to start more & more), about 200 pulls later (literally!) it kicked in, so id say the problem is defo flooding, but why would it flood while the engine is running & cause it to stalll!? like i say was fine for a few runs then stalled due to flooding which is why it wouldnt start back up at the track.

So basically i need to know why the fker keeps flooding, if it was the carb settings then it would run like a bag of crap when it is running, but its been running great & just getting a little smoke form the pipe when i give it some throttle which is a good sign, so don't think its the carb settings?

ideas :( ?

hay dude i didnt realise in the tread i did that you made a post on. my car did the same thing this is back in the summer and to un flood the engine had to take the carb off and the spark plug out, took a while to unflood but defo was quicker than how long it took you. i ya took those parts off and turned it upside down n i could litrally see the fuel oil mix dripping out. looks like we both got interesting engine problems. you said you have a little smoke, i have to much i think lots of smoke. hmm

Sounds like what happened to me a while back. Check the killswitch on the engine. Mine was sticking partially in & causing it to cut out & not start again. Squirt some wd40 or similar on the button and press it a few times to make sure its free and returns fully then try starting it up. Hopefully this will do the trick! Took me ages to solve mine & I had an arm like popeye!

hiya mate, aye i can get it un-flooded ok now, but still a pain in the a$$ having to do it everytime as im pretty sure now its gunna do it all the time after i turn engine off :(

i know its not my carb cuz it did the same with my old carb & this is now a new one (668) only had about 2 tanks through it, so its summit to do with engine :(

checked that dude (1st thing i checked after ive fell for that once before lol) but aye kill switch is poping out fine, like i say it starts now 1st pull, but i know after a good run its gunna do same thing i just know it! :(

will also check coil gap to incase but not long had my engine stripped down fitting new pipe & i checked the coil gap but it may have moved so will defo check it :)

Not sure how you could check plug cap and its an intermittent fault so wouldnt necessarily show up under test anyway

\o/ ...just gunna lie it flat on a small piece of metal see if it sparks, safe to do that aint it?

cant put it to my head cuz im using a plastic cover & don't fanct takin it all off if i don't need to at 1st ^^

check the stop button
they get stuck in
usually the best solution is to either change it or drill a small hole in it and put a screw in so when you have stopped the engine you can pull it back out again.

Hi. Mate, its Simon from the track, I had a similar prob. With the km. Was going great then would just stop and wouldn't start for love nor money, I flooded it a couple of times as well.
It turned out that there was a prob. With the gasket between the carb and the head, I filed and cleaned it and that sorted it.
Basicly it was over heating.

pulse holes are sometimes blocked causing flooding, tuning carb needles, and pop off spring(metering spring) might need adjusting via screw in top of carb, should be level.if its too low it will flood, too high, will run lean buddy, good luck, don't give up on largescale mate
