Thanks Bajaraji for the info.I also have a HPI BAJA 5B for bashing and racing.
:2guns:

I am still going to look into MCD BAJA 1000.
There is a member that is giving me a great deal on his. Hopefully we can work it out and I will have it soon. I have been eyeing them for awhile and can not wait to add one to my collection.

My friend had a FG BAJA 4WD and MY HPI killed it where ever we would go.
On the road, BMx tracks, open fields it has no chance what so ever. Our motors are even close in size... so I am not a big fan of the FG BAJA. He now has a 5T with the same motor and it alot closer race.

The gearing on the HPI and FG are different. Have him gear different for speed.;) There is no reason a 4wd should not beat a 2wd on a track unless you kick his butt on driving.

Yes, I do have some skills:blush: when it comes to driving.:2guns:and more time on the suspension tune then any other part of it.

I take that into consideration...but when I drive his, I still have a time trying to get around him. The BAJA 5B is just to fast and light on any straights. It can get a good lead into the corners.. naturally the 4wd cars corner faster and that is where they catch up. Once out of the corner though it is a lost cause so to say, Even if they passed.

All these things are my reason to get a 4WD MCD. I do believe that with the proper gearing and driver that thing should "KILL" a 5b.

And the weight issue keeps comming up. With a little research found that the MCD BAJA 1000(not the ultimate) built properly will only weigh 2-3 pounds heavier then a loaded HPI 5T. This said a good 4.75 -5 hp motor and GEARING will rocket that large scale rc.

ok clone good luck. u may just tweek that thing eons better that i did for mine and come out with better performance then i did. waitin to hear from u on the completed project. hope it all goes well.
P.S. your buddy's fg baja must have malaria. i'll be parting out my mcd soon and i've got lots of gearing that u may wanna try .

baja 1000

So Bajaraji,,Just curios why you are partring out your mcd 1000..Instead of selling it whole..Is that the best way to try and get what `is invested Back??And also i was wondering if you could take me to school for a little while on the gearing you was talking about..:helpsmilie:

my thought is that if i put the time into it for repairs and get it up to some kinda par, that i won't get what i've invsted. Last ime i tried driving it my spekrum decided to take a lunch brake in a parking lot with curbs. Bought a brnd new chassis and parts but i have not installed them yet. It's been bout a year since. my gearing plan was sugesstions that i got from STEVE O and a couple of overseas guys who sugested that a high revng 23 or 26 motor with torque ratios gears would make that a fast ass buggy. It took forever to get up to speed with the high speed gears even with a modifed 28 / 30 motor. on the day of my torque gears test was the run away wreck. Don't quite remember the ratios but after that wreck i was through with it.

Hi....road runner....Try www.MCDRC.com ...plenty of info there... there is a gear ratio chart showing all Ratios for accleleration and top end....i use 30+33 then 23+26 and it is rappid of the line....you can change 23+26 around to giv u more top end and less acceleration...also an upgraded clutch, e.g. 3 or 4 shoe might be an idea.i have a mcd EvoIII/ulitmate with a 29cc an a 4 shoe an had no problems yet. A 2 shoe clutch don't last that long, as say in a hpi baja, due to more tourqe....hope this helps...

I would first like to say thanks to ZOUZ10 :2guns:
He and I came to a deal on his Baja 1000 and I can't be any happier.
Now the wait will kill me.

Bajaraji, I do think his FG has a case of something, but it's not my car and he is happy with it. I am sure that my MCD will be different. Even with the draw backs.... in my opinion is a great platform. I will be spending some time here to pick your brains for great info.

That said what is a good motor size to move these heavyweights around?

I've raced the MCD against HPI 5B and 5T and it was a close call. I had a 26cc /zenoah at the time and it was holding its own. They on the other had had 29cc ported motors in theirs. Around corners, i killed them all day long. As soon as we got to the straights, as expected they would tear it up and pass me.

gottaclone thanks for the props. A 29cc would be a great motor in the MCD 1000. I got this one from DDM and it is great. http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.4449/.f
BTW: that is the ones that all my friends had in their HPI's. one of them ported his own because he's good like that, but they hold well even stock, and you can't beat the price for a 29cc stuffed crank.

Chris

Well that sounds right. A 29cc is a beast for sure.:cool2:

I have been getting the parts for a CY four bolt F-270
+2mm stroker non stuffer, BI Zeta con rod, Trevor Simpson
Reed Case, Oddiefied ecu V2, Jet pro v3 pipe, TMR porting.
Which will be right around 29.2cc. Never needed to have so much power
so I have been waiting for a MCD to put this motor in.. finally found a
worthy car to put it in.

And yes, CY is releasing their four bolts to the public soon. They already have let some out and 1 is at TMR for some testing. SO far they are a
Big thumbs up... will be able to make good power and reliable. They have fixed the plating issue's of the older 35mm two bolts, left material for a good port job. This will give Zen's a run for there money.

Clutch

Say, thaks for info..I will hopefully be driving it this evening for the first time.I got a new carb and new front diff.It wasnt running right when i got it two weeks ago.then my brother was tinkering with the carb setting,in the street and guess what he hit a curb and busted both font wheels..But anyway is the clutch assembly pretty simple or what?well thanks again:cool2::cool2:

yeah mate simple to fit......a 2 shoe normally only lasts about 2-4 tanks in a mcd....a four shoe will last a hole lot longer.....+ u can adjust a 3 or 4 shoe to your prefrence...

:blush:Well guys,i was able to make it out to the grass today..And here we go!!So truck was running perfect:phone::phone:,,Till about three quarters of the way thru a tank of gas..Then it started booging down,:helpsmilie::helpsmilie::cool2:i would ride out the throttle and it woud finlly catch up,,:cool2::cool2:and then again:no::no: it would continue to due this throughout the rest of the tank.:helpsmilie:Also when i pulled it up to me to see if i could figure out what was wrong i noticed that only the front wheels were spinning:no::no::no:...So iam not gonna lie :cool2: i did flip it one time only and it was not a bad flip:blush::blush:.A when i did i would have to presume that the rear diff messed up at that point in time..And damm,,,this was my first test run:boat::boat:to check out the new carb and new front Diff.I just wonder if the flip really had little to do with the rear diff breaking and more to do with the previous owners only using rear wheel drive..Anyway i have rattled on long enough,,,so whats yalls engine diagnosis:helpsmilie::helpsmilie:Oh i was running about 50:1 fuel ratio:cool2:

OK a topic change is cool with me!

Which carb did you get? Are you using
syn oil? That is why you went to a 50:1
ratio. Is it cold by you... if so that would
explain why it was bogging.
JUST MY TWO CENTS

I'm sorry dude. stay away from it. Theyr'e heavy as hell. I have never taken mine out and ran afull tank with out breaking something , and by the way parts are expnsive too. I'll sell u mine, brand new chassis,2 bodies and a bunch of parts and gears plus a motor. If u really wanna enjoy a 4wd buggy that will eat bajas for lunch n dinner, get good jumps and don't break as much, then get u a
fg baja 4WD. I own 2 hpi and 3 fg baja 1 mcd rr and a Rampage TT. MCD i the least favorite. Not tryin to bash em but don't waste ur money. You'll be at the park drivin on egg shells and hopin u never flip, becuz u will break a part.

are you serious?

reason im asking is ill be in the market later this year for a 4WD toy and tossing up between FG Baja 4WD, MCD race runner and the TBII. Durability is my no. 1 priority.

Well sperera, there are many good points that i failed to mention in my post. I'm quite sure that a lot of guys on here have enjoyed many hours of fun with their RR or 1000 and so on. All cars are gonna have their weak points, and their easy break points. Just that my personal experience was'nt a good one. I think if you go all alloy $$$$$$$$$$$$ yur chances of walkin away from flips and jumps unscaved will be greatly increased. The weight of that car and the arms just don't go together especially with the cart wheel flips that they are famouse for. hpis are like rectangular and mcds are like squares and so my simple lil flips turned into cart wheels. cart wheels turned into broken arm parts.
solid drive trane, solid chassis, solid diff and a couple of other things that escapes my mind right now.
My honest thoughts are that most guys here have put so much money into that emperors new suit of a car that they hate to exprees their buyers remorse. several of the major suppliers that we all buy parts from here on this forum will express to u later what i'm tellin you now. But only after u personally develop a good phone relationship with them.
If u do enjoy running on flatlands, truely enjoy not jumping and truely enjoy buying expensive parts then get it. i don't mind selling you mine. pm me.
I'm on my 3rd fg baja 4wd. They're not indistructable but it's damn sure not my MCD headaches.
