has anyone run a aluminum tube from the cold side pressure in fan shroud to back side of clutch housing to have a constant flow of cooler air run through and also maybe expel some of the clutch dust. I have the cooling fan shoe mount but I think it just remixes the hot air. would seem that it would not take much flow to always replace the hot area in clutch housing= small cc area......

I don't see why not, if you do try it take plenty of pictures

going to hit a autozone and get a blister pack of those rubber gromet's to plumb into fan housing and clutch box and use tubing bender to run line low next to motor plate away from exhaust heat and sneak it in by clutch box single motor mount pillar. I figger if I put hole in fan shroud right on fan blade tips it should push the most pressure slammed straight onto tubing mouth. If done right and kept low it should be hard to see......Hope!

What's it going on ? A baja? If so you could run it under the carb close to the crankcase and it would be hard to notice. And put some heat reflective tape on the air hose so it doesn't get any heat from the crankcase

Im concerned about over heating clutches as well. The Rovans use soft steel clutch shoes which creates a lot of friction / heat . I too have a aux fan upgrade and i drilled 6 holes in the clutch bell to allow better airflow. Seems to work good.

I have done that ,on my 1/8 scale rigs ,an now ,when I buy a new bell ,I get the ones with the air slots already
cut in them!

Wow for $89.00 I guess there's loads of room for mods to be done.
I gotta ask. I don't normally worry too much about how cool my clutch is running, as I've never had any issues. Is this something a lot of you have had issues with? I've never noticed any discoloration of the bell and have never had a short lived clutch. The stock zen clutch lasted years and the fs hardly shows signs of wear after years of use. I don't race though...

@Seandonato73 I don't think it's that big an issue if you're running a good clutch. The OG HPI baja clutch from CY running with the TR 1st gen enclosed clutch carrier on the dunes lasted quite a while without any issue. The Elcon and Lauterbacker did even better.

The only concerns about heat was wear on the carrier bearings and clutch fade on the stock shoes. That's why TR went with such a large carrier bearing. One less piece to fail prematurely. Sure, it's overkill, but why not in this situation? Fade on the the Elcon and Lauterbacher was pretty non-existent due to the shoe materials, but the springs might weaken a bit over time causing earlier engagement. It will happen in an open carrier too, so why worry?

Clutch shoes are a wear item, pure and simple. I try not to worry about it and just run it like hell. ?

Another reason I take the extra precautions to add a quality grease to all my bearings. I have NO doubt that the Rovan OEM grease is something of the likes of goat lard and will easily break down from heat. The Rovan's also use a cast aluminum clutch bell carrier assembly (The HPI unit is composite). So with cast aluminum, you get better strength, no flex, BUT will transfer a LOT of unwanted engine heat to the carrier bearings and clutch assembly. Swapping over to my fav Mobil 1 Synthetic grease will only add to longevity and reliability.

Yeah, TR V2 carrier is working really good, however the 4-shoe elcon clutch isnt working good on my new engine, even though clutch and bell was brand new. I have clutch fade after max. 5minutes of bashing. So now i have ordered the UFC clutch and bell, that should solve my problem.

So I'm just gonna ask another dumb question. Why not run the FS racing clutch? It's already metal has a good track record with me.(good God I'm starting to sound like a salesman ?) I can go run for hours and never have clutch fade or slippage. My next favorite would have to be a stock Zenoah with an 8k spring.

That is the one i ordered with UFC bell

I got my FS set from Detroit P and vertigo 2 bell from ddm and you right 0 wear and fade I just run out of poop to make here at shop and reach out to see if my brain farts are good farts or not, ......Mostly beer farts!..Lol
I bead blasted my FS shoe set faces with xxx fine media , just enough to change face color and they break in way faster and more even.
