I just cant get my head round 2 shock shafts in 1 day.... and a wing mount and now the front cage again...

I think its time to start making my own bits again...maybe a front cage made from steel tubes or solid alloy will survive longer..

I still think the bubble wrap is a good idea!!!:lol::lol::lol:

You'll end up like Keith (Trebor) and simply put them on (polished African Grenadilla hardwood!!) shelves!!!:lol::lol:

I know where you're coming from! You almost 'feel' it any time the truck takes a tumble - and can visualise the £££ disappearing from the wallet in required repairs! :(:(

None of my cars will ever be shelf queens..although I do like them to be seen when not being used...mostly due to being broken..:lol::lol:

But you got to admit Trebor's car is the biz.. I wouldn't want to get it dirty either...lol but I would..

If you're looking at 5mm shock shafts then you're into replcing the lot with a set from elcon, hormann or contrast

Cheers Mike
I will have to get a 4mm one first as funds don't allow anything more just now..but I will have a look and see whats available..

Well I made up a new shock shaft today on the lathe and it is working a treat..:w00t:

then I lost drive so thought one of the squares had worked loose again  But I discovered the wheel itself no longer has a square in it...it is completely rounded off.

really annoyed but dug out another set of wheels that came with the car and fitted them..:w00t:

5 mins later and the tyre decided enough is enough and it destroyed itself:mad:
ripped it wide open and threw the foam insert 40ft in the air..

so again I have been out had some fun and come back again with some big damage... :crying::crying::crying:

(note to myself there are no pi**ed off smilleys )

pic of the damage

Im sure Assad the scammer has a couple of baja wheels for sale :lol::lol::lol:

Im begining to think this car came from him to start with...it has been a nightmare so far....

I have another set that wont fit so they will go on ebay with other plastic spares that I wont be using...it can all go towards a new set of wheels

jeez u did a good job on that wheel! u must be one hard basher!

As said before Sperera If its not getting used there is no point in having it..

Well I got myself a wee homer and I put the cash towards a set of alloy shocks and some wheels via ebay.

shocks arrived today and look fine..waiting on the wheels now

I stripped down the front end as something was annoying me only to find 2 different front knuckles with different geometry on each,
so soon I want to replace both knuckles for a new pair..

My wallet is taking a huge battering with this thing so far....but its still fun...:w00t:

should be very reliable, don't think the shafts are any stronger than stock but the body and the end caps should stop them from flexing which might help your problem

FINALLY having some fun with this beasty...

anti roll bar is fitted to the front and it is handling well now..doing as it is told to and no sudden grip roll...even got it cornering on 3 wheels..:lol::lol:

alloy shocks are fitted too and look good.but had to sort out the layshaft gear as it came loose after about half a tank so about to go back out in the sun and have another blast...lets hope i don't break it again...:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Well the bloody gear came loose again..blue loctite is just not doing its job...might need to get serious and open the red..(or the welder) ..

I even retapped the threads out to make sure there was no contamination to effect the loctite.

on another note....I visited b&q and bought 1mtr of 10mm alloy tube for less than £4 so I have got my benders out and made a new front cage section at alot less than half the price of an fg one..:D:D:D

how long are you letting the loctite dry? give it at least 24 hours.

i run blue loctite and have never had a gear come loose, what you can do also is use a good drill bit and put a small hole on the shaft where the grub screw makes contact, this will give it more bite and reduce the chance of it coming it loose

normally I do any maintenance one week and it sits for a week again before it gets run..wondering if my layshaft is shot...I might make a new one and see if that helps..

I was thinking about drilling into the shaft for the grub screw so might try that as well.

Are you using the flat bottomed or the pointed grub screws? If they are pointed try filing them flat so the flat face of the grub screw sits against the flat face on the shaft.

When I bought my 1st marder off fleabay the engine mounts were broken & the layshaft gear fecked up as a result. I couldnt get the buggar off the shaft cos the grub screws were seized solid. Tried heat & all sorts but no joy so ended up drifting it off the shaft cos it was scrap anyway. After that I haven't used loctite on the threads just nipped them up a bit at a time so they were biting even around the shaft & its never come loose yet. On other grub screws I just blob a drip of blue loctite on the top once they are tightened down IF I experience any working loose. Seems to work well enough and makes removing them a doddle :D

A top quality set of hex drivers is essential for beating these little bastards into submission when it comes to undoing them :w00t:

I've BROKEN something again....

Well I got bigger problems now.......I think I have broken my left index finger near the knuckle....going to leave it and see if its any better tomorrow if not hospital for me...So no maintenance this weekend nor any driving:(

No maintenance cos you cant pick your nose whilst you are thinking about what to do :w00t:
