So I’m ordering a OBR 9.4 horsepower engine for my Baja, and I know the stock drivetrain obviously isn’t going to hold up very long with that much power.
So I need some advice on what essential drivetrain upgrades y’all would recommend. I saw a steel spur gear on DDM which looks good, and the Phatdad dogbones are the other thing I was thinking of, but I’m not sure if they’re the best pick. I just really don’t wanna break the car the first day I get to try out the new engine, any advice is appreciated.

stock drive will handle that OBR motor no worries
?
the clutch bell carrier should be change from plastic ?

Thanks, do you have a recommendation on which metal clutch carrier to buy? The only one on Dave’s site is out of stock it appears

Thanks, so I shouldn’t have to worry about dogbones getting bent any? I’ve just seen a lot of people say they recommend buying thicker/reinforced ones if you get a stronger engine

Yep, what these guys said.

I'm a break then replace kinda guy as well.

The dogbones probably won't be a big problem unless they're from the Gen 1 5B or 5T. HPI beefed them up for later versions. If they do detonate, go with FLM, they have a lifetime warranty against breakage.
Thanks, and yeah mine is the very first model with the purple anodized aluminum. I just would rather have all the upgrades I need on hand to prevent having any downtime when the car breaks instead of having to wait several days on parts from Dave’s discount motors to ship.
The last part I was considering buying, if it wasn’t as expensive, was a turtle racing aluminum quick diff. I know the transmission exploding is usually really uncommon but once again I’m just not sure what to expect from an engine with like 3 times the horsepower of the stock one in it.

You probably won't have issues with the transmission, I have a7.5-8hp obr in my stock transmission and no issues.

Thanks so much for the tips guys, I usually don’t jump my car much or abuse it too seriously so it’ll probably hold up with the parts y’all recommended.

Get an alloy clutch carrier, UFC clutch with a blackbone bell and a set of blackbone 19/55 gears and you'll be amazed

You’ll have enough slippage not to worry about wear and tear, as long as you have “slippage “ it’ll be pretty good, don’t over think it ..... start bashing...
FYI that 34 revs to 21k the 32 revs to about 23k
