New Top End

Well Well..I had the Dark soul cooling head...sealed up good...I didn't need those wires..
The 4mm screws... never back up....Had a heck of a time with those..but I got them out..
Now as to the head it is super tight....Had to get a block of wood to knock it loose....
Funny thing...the flywheel spun freely..piston moved up & down ..like no problem....
I took it apart any way.....clean cylinder & piston...smooth surface's no scratch's
top of piston is a little black is all.........So maybe another day for that again........
I have to give it some thought...................
Ok I got a new top end kit....Called ..ADA...billet cooling head...these's are for GO-Ped's
I install new base gasket with sealant...lubed up the cylinder...slid it in place...
added spark plug dome...cooling head and put in bolts....Snug up in criss cross pattern...These have to be torqued down
in 2 stages....30 in pds...then 45 in pds......Same way criss cross pattern ....now after you run the engine for 15 minutes
you let cool down and retorque the head bolts..........So it is all ready to fire up..
have to let sealant set up over night....In all took about 3 hours....
Enclosed pictures......All Replies Welcome.....Slawhammer

Looks good slaw. Where did you buy form, DDM? Mine didn't come with any instructions, on torqing the bolts.

Hey clubin...Yup ordered form DDM..came with instructions..but I went to www.ada.com
you can also get instructions for head kits there..for the specks.....You know to criss cross tighten bolts evenly......those are the correct torque values.......
I can send you a copy if you would like.....Slawhammer

Spark Plug

Going to be nice this afternoon..so was looking over the firehammer..getting ready for
firing up the engine.....Hmmmmm what's wrong with this picture?.....Slawhammer

You are correct about the spark plug temnial cap screw...also for my application the
reach is to short.....Use to have those little caps....I had to order a longer reach spark plug
for the new ADA head kit..the dome is deeper...the spark plug like CMR7H is too short
Any way when the new spark plugs arrived by mail..I opened 1 carton up ..took out
spark plug...NO Screw Cap....Looks like I will have to go a lawn mower shop...
Newer spark plugs have a solid top end.....Good eye there trip.......Slawhammer

Hey trip...All the plugs I have are solid top....I had a bunch of these screw caps...
I went to Napa ..there are only 2 places here for automotive..and a couple lawn mower
shops....The guy at Napa gave me 1 for "FREE" ..so I asked about Ngk plugs..what I needed
for this ADA Head kit...I gave him the number of the plug....He said 2 bucks each...
I said give me 8 plugs..He said I will have here by 8am in the morning...I said done deal..
So looks like I can fire it up later today......Slawhammer

Slaw, brilliant idea on the insert. I have a couple chunks of tubing. I thought the semi was finished... time to rip some shocks off...

I agree the springs are soft. I have red springs on the front of my semi (same shocks you have there) and blue on the back. The blue are so stiff I had to make my own dual stage spring cutting a chunk off the stock spring and used that as part of my preload. The upgrade springs I have a very short compared to the stock springs but very beefy. I got them a long time ago with an rc I bought and have had them around. good for on road. though some like a stiff suspension...

just some musings to consider... also if in a pinch I am using cen genesis spacers on the back and they fit the shocks well. and if you aren't against ghetto for testing, zap straps LOL

Hey Pipe..Glad you could use the tubing incert idea for your shocks....
yeah I think those were shock clips from my nitro CEN Gst shocks...I used...
I got the new rebuild fired up....ran ok for like 10 t0 15 minutes..had to shut down
retorque the head bolts...they were loose.....Then My son was having problems with
his nitro nemesis big block engine.....I listened to it as he was trying to get it started..
it would spit and sputter..rev up & die....told him to pull the engine out...
take it apart..I wanted to see the internals of the engine.....Just what I thought...
no pinch left in the sleeve......I told him to hold on..I would fix him up....
I came back with a new modified sleeve & piston with con rod I had done.....
He just said put that on my account what I already owe ya...I said at this rate your not going to be getting that baja any time soon....I have enough CEN GST nitro stuff to build 2 complete trucks...all parts..2 spare engine parts..2 complete modifided engines..
2 complete 3 spd trans...beefed up diff's....so he's good for awhile......My nitro has been sitting for over a year now...all reworked and beefed up 5 horse engine.....
any way I am done with nitro my self.......I keep it around ..for my son....
every so often 1 of his pals shows up.....I let my son take my nitro truck too use..
he let's his friend run his T-Max........................
So I hope to get out today with the firehammer to get this new head kit broke in...
.................All Replies Welcome...Slawhammer..........

Hey Trip: got the new spark plugs at 8am just like was promised..found out they
come in a 10 pack....so next time I will just get the10 pack easy enough....
weather look better..should hit 70* degrees today ..so will be out later....
I will keep ya posted on this new top end kit....Slawhammer...

Well I got that pig of a engine fired up...have to have throttle wide open to start...
set the idle some what...drove it slowly not going past half throttle...,,short burst
for power....seemed to be ok..ran for 20 minutes...I head a tingling noise so shut off...
about half tank of fuel....let cool down.....Rechecked the head bolts...1 bolt loosened up
I retorqued them down again.......went and did a couple arrands.....
took out a second time....Still a pig to get fired up....I drove it just the same as the first time......guess about 20 minutes in to it..it just quit....still had little fuel left...
so got it fired back up...nothing would not move..locked up..making a little racket...so shut down...
so I figured drive grub screws..rear diff..................Let the engine cool down...
started to take the rear end apart.....rear diff moved ok...grub screws tight....
took spur gear off...lay shaft brake spins free.....tried too turn the pinion...
won't move..locked up....thought froze bearing....so pulled the gear plate off...
clutch bell move free....I just installed all new bearing and packed with grease...
the LB clutch froze up....Talk about fun to get off the crank shaft......
I removed the spark plug...put my handy dandy rope down the hole...now the LB clutch arm have holes in them....I used 2 ..4 mm allen wernch's stuck in the holes...took abig
heavy duty screw drive and put between the 2 allen wrench's...jerry rig spanner wench
Little bit of force it came loose.......So I will check it out later....I put the CY clutch
back in....put every thing back to gether,,lock tited all grub screws...Let it set over night.....Weather report looks good for Sat..70*+ degrees out.....
So you know I will be back out again....The spark plug is still black...1 full tank ran thru the top end now....I think 1 more tank of fuel at half throttle ..I can start going full throttle for
some short bursts....On the third tank I can start adjusting for brown color on the plug...
So there ya have the lastest on my project....

I got you again yesterday..got another tank of fuel ran thru the engine....
getting better....that thing is still a pig to get started...hope it will loosen up a bit..
little hard to pull the pul starter...so means great compression.......all in all looking good
shook every thing pretty good..had to retighten scews,bolts..head bolts....
not sure about today....slight mist turning to rain.....but had a good time ..I ran some at full throttle ..in short bursts.....Those Hostile tires hook up awesome in the grass...
pop's wheelie right now......loose dirt spins both rear wheels..making rooster tails....
So I guess this is a 26CC engine..so with the RN Fat Monster pipe..I am guessing
at 4Hp..good enough...you can control the firehammer and still have fun...
not getting crazy on power.......I will report more later ans maybe a vide of this ADA
top end in use......All Replies Welcome....Slawhammer

Hey Bigger The Better...I have used knobby tires..and now with these Hostile AT"s
they have sharp edge's more flat as you say....I think they bite better and harder...
For the rear tire that's the answer...for the front not sure yet my self...maybe dirt buster
or a pin tire...I want the front to slide some what..with the rear pushing....like you make
power on turns........As long as there will be Hostile At tires for the rear..that's what I will use......Awsome tires.....Love those tires.....Hook up is right now....easy to wheelie...
Have not got out again rain here...weather report says rain up to friday....
today was sick day for me....not up too par yet....can only be up for couple hours...
Thanks for your reply Bigger....Slawhammer

Rain Day Here...so general maintance...checking all nuts,bolts.screws,wiring,
batterys charged up...repack wheel bearings....repacked the wheelie bar bearings..
cleaned the air filter and reoiled it....Replaced the fuel tank grommet and new fuel lines
I like to replace the fuel every 2 months....cheap investment for doing that...
to avoid any pin holes cracks or 2 stroke build up in the lines..............
So I am ready to run the firehammer ....waiting for the weather to break....
been rain off /on all day.....projected forcast looking good for Friday thru the weekend..
