New to1/5 Scale..Slawhammer's Project

Trip..I am not to worried about topend speed..I am more in to low & mid range..
If I wanted a speed demon I would get a HPI Baja maxed out for speed..with the meanest
engine money could buy...I Use to do truck pulling..where ya need low end for grunt...
CSP..Thanks for the pictures..It was about what I figured it would be...for size and all
I did find a complete set of 4 mounted up Like the one you show in the picture
for under $100 Dollars...I might go that route.....And figure out some thing later for other wheels & tries...Thanks for the replies guys...You make my day..enjoy hearing from ya..All Replies Welcome....Slawhammer
PS...Hey Trip.. throw some different wheels& tires like I am doing if you want to run parking lots...And switch back for off road...
All I need is this firehammer..It is going to do it all for me...little on road and some off road...
I can't afford any thing else..at my age ..who knows..who much play time i have any way..so I am going to enjoy this firehammer...
All my eggs are in 1 basket you might say.....

I hope to GOD you are not in a 'chair... I was in one years ago, paralyzed from the waist down... I was 21! I made it through it, even though the Doc said, I would never walk again... 2 years later I "Danced" back into his office!!! Don't ever give up!!!

Ohhhh No poop!!! I didn't realize there was that small of a difference!!!

Disregard my last!!! I thought they were smaller...

The first time I had them side by side, I thought the FHMT wasn't really a monster truck any longer!

I'll take a pic tomorrow of the HPI, FHMT and also the FG MT's. You'll definitely see a difference between all three.

Slaw- I'll take the measurement tomorrow and post my results here.

Ok..it is rain and thunder storms here for the next 3 days..Good to see that...
All the snow & Ice is gone...so the rain will clean things up...looking forward to getting
the firehammer out..maybe asphalt first...have some test runs to make and readjust the carb...or get another one...think the old one is sucking in air on the throttle shaft...
All new gaskets so have not found a air leak...Still can't get that brown colour on the plug.
I am going to set My carb at 2 out H and 1 1/2 out on L and go from there..New plug also.
Got to be a reason for not getting the colour right...

Hey TRIP..you can PM me any time or in fact any body can if they wish to..
I don;t get to yak much any more...seems like old friends have gone away or have different hobbies......This RC Hobby is my life and fun time...with the good people here

Okay, here are FG, FHMT, and Baja tires/wheels next to each other. The Baja has MX's mounted. Slaw- which measurements did you need for the Baja Rim? The wheel diameter is about 4 5/8 inches. The width of the Hostile MX is pretty close to 3 1/2 inches.

I will wait and figure out for the disk brakes rubbing on the inside if the baja wheel
Don't think it will with the adapters...I can get longer axles if need be.....
Now I am going to have to take a picture of the firehammer stock wheel and the FG
compatiable wheel...I think it is taller than a true FG wheel & tire....
what wheel or rim do you have the knobby mounted on?,,120 x60?...I am looking at hostle knobby you pointed out....Thanks my friend....Slawhammer

Wheels & Tires

Hey CSP..I took a couple pictures of the FHMT &FG wheels...For some reason I thought
mine were bigger tires..From your pictures and some others I have seen on the web
looking for tires....Thanks again for you taking the time to take those pictures.....
I am greatfull for all the help I get from every one here in the forum....
Enclosed our my wheels & tires..The FG tire is bigger ..so that means more rotating mas
to turn...I think I am going to stay close to factory size wheels & tires...

Painted Rims

Well looking at the firhammer at a distance I see too much red for the wheels...
and being bored..I added some color to break it up....took a couple hours..
then clear coated...now has to cure for 24 hrs..So I will mount them on the firehammer
in the morning....Yeah I knoe the pait will get all scratched,nicked up...But I think
it is better than the white rims.....These are stock wheels any way.......
Like I mentioned I will be going to the baja style & tarmac tires for asphalt....
Hostle Knobby for the dirt....any way maybe get rid of those Fg wheels...

Looks great! Who cares if something gets scratched, that's the fun of it! What are you going to use for the front for the Baja type wheel/tires?

Ok then mounted up ..painted stock wheels...I will use the stock wheels when I make any up grades for performance..like changes to exhaust or engine....for my test runs...
I plan on staying pretty close to this size wheels for better rotating mass...with some minor gear changing...for speed on asphalt....Your comments and ideas welcome on this

What happened to the hot chick in your avatar? Why change something good?

Anyway, the wheels for the baja are 170x60 for the front. What about Hostile slicks for the rear? Hostile has them in different colors....Red slicks would look pretty cool. The best all around are the AT's.....asphalt, grass, dirt, etc.

Awesome! I like the rims, they go great with the body, helluva lot better than dull, plain old white. :cool2:

CSP...Yeah the stocks wheels look awsome now..You may be correct on the slicks
for the rear....
I will put up the chic again later....I put up a picture of my new christmas pup 8 weeks old
in my pocket...miniture..weighs 2 lbs....

hello slawhammer,i would not reccomend slicks at all unless you are planning to run strictly onroad at all times(sounds obvious i know lol) but thing about slicks i have them on my carson onroad,and they heat up like the racecars on tracks but wear out very quickly,now unless you can get info on the compound choices available i wouldnt be spending for now,the grip is unreal though with them...

i wouldnt still reccomend them for an offroad car though,i think for that size rim they could be very ££ but im not sure on the prices or compounds available so cant say for sure.

Hey dc..now if have been reading this right along I am going 2 different applications
1. On/ Road...be it slicks or a good tire for cement or asphalt..
2. Off/Road...Good knobby tire....
I have 3 different areas to run the firehammer...
But thanks for your input on this as well...That's what it's all about sharing
