So i'm trying to take apart my pull start as there is no longer any retention since the knot undid on the handle and the rope shot back into the pull start. However the bolt that hold the spring in does not seem to come loose as the whole system spins instead of loosening, any thoughts on a way I can use some pliers to hold down what's spinning to loosen the bolt? Thanks

what doug said mate ☝️,
the bolt should come straight out tbh, i have the alloy version of that starter and bolt comes out easy enough,
just keep winding to undo it and see what happens, if its bob tucked then get a fresh starter (y),
if ya do get it undone then be carefull when removing the spool or you will end up with the main spring wrapped around yer hand and then it will need rewinding :D,
