maybe you could change the oil yes to suit what you would rather.
im getting four new ones for mine now ine of the days,but for now im running 4 of the old ones and four new alloy ones and they work great,i have the rears hardned up and the front a little,i think they work pretty good...

on the last vids i posted up i done some sharp turns in the field at speed and handles very well.

be intresting to see how they go with thicker oil too ...
 
O no!!!! just brought Eclon drive train...had to as it was only £50 on ebay, this is cheeper than buying alloy engine mount, 1 alloy diff housing and alloy gear carrier, so thought what a bargin, now i have to buy small engine mount and rh diff housing, also a new lay shaft as i found my one to be bent...i think..will get it out later for closer inspection.
Is there any think else i need before install? anyone know...DC?

well you just bought your monster the best present you could get for it.

now i will list what you need here my friend.

i presume you just got the drivetrain alone.

you need as follows

1/ elcon rear lower a-arms x 2 (these are expensive)

2/ both top elcon diff mounts and one right bottom one also (must be elcon as i got caught out this way i tried to use my fg alloy ones but differnt height) so i had to go buy the elcon ones.

3/ gears/ your own should be good to go but i also got the helical cut gears.

4/rear a-arm mounts elcon x2

5/ elcon spur adaptor

also super i would put on a new layshaft you can get one like me also the elcon hollow one or your own will fit there.

but do not put on a bent one as it will anoy you eating bearings...

with the parts i have listed you should be good to go..but not cheap super..

best of luck.keep a look on e-bay for other bits you need also,but rare.

Dc, yeah just drive train, comes with top diff mount, so just need rh diff mount, small engine mount and lay shaft.
Can i fit my old plastic a arms and bottom arms for time being?
 
the elcon arms are wider also your drivetrain has a diff mount built on it and it is higher so if you used your own arms your diff would be sitting to high for your hubs,hence why you need the a-arm mounts to raise every thing up.

also the elcon a-arms are wider.
don't know how much exactly i would say a good 20mill both sides together.

must check and see actually.

so conclusion super is if you use your plastic a-arms you will be too low.

maybe you could try and mount them to the elcon a-arm mounts to get you the right height,but then you would need the a-arm mounts.
 
I saw that this morning on the Bay. But I think you have to have their lower arms/brackets and hobbythek also say on the listing that you need the special 14T pinion for the diff.

Good price though, 1/3 what it should have been. :)

you need a special 14tooth to fit on the drivetrain super otherwise it will be too big for it.

you could do a bit of machining though.

mine cost me 470euro complete unit including helical cut gears,layshaft and elcon spur adaptor.

Found that the special pinion is the same size as a 16t but with 14teeth as there is no meshing with this system, means a 14t pinion will be to small...
Do i have to buy the hole set? Or can a buy just the 14t as i can't find it on hobbytec website?
 
i would ring hobbyhek and just get the right one super
i think your own one may fit, i presume you are going to run you own gears,well then i think it will fit,but will be a little cramped,but wont bind...

as i said if not you rear of the engine could be slightly machined to take it.

no harm like....
 
Dc , it wont fit as it will be to far away from diff gear, hence there special pinion, wich are the same size, but with diferent amount of teeth...
You can get the gear when you buy the gear carrier, but they don't list it on its own.
 
Cheers Chris, this lot is gona cost a bit....I found that 14t lay gear is same size as 16t... may have 2 buy whole set...
 
Hobbythek mentions the special 14 is the same as the 16 (that's where I read it), but didn't see it for sale on the website...
 
Jesus that's expensive for some gears, still I guess there are four of them...! Not sure what the difference would be, but probably pretty close as it does say they are for the Monster models. :)
