I'd be more impressed when someone stops using piston port top ends with epoxied intakes for reed bottom ends. Would be nice to see a sleeved cylinder and a heat sink head like a nitro... this is just kicking the stone down the road 🥱.
Yes, but it needs to start somwhere.
I wonder what Oneill is doing to get the 35.7? Stroking is fine but limited to a zenoah 32. So maybe they made their own cylinder? I kinda doubt it though.

Reeds with piston port heads have been around for a decade or more in the rc world. taylor has been doing real deal reeds on their big bore series. So start where again...over with existing parts? Why is it manufacturers like kawasaki, yamaha suzuki,Honda all have real reed case engines? O yea they manufacturer their cylinders in house and not reuse what's already out.

The rc world needs NEW not tweaked existing heads with fancy heat sink heads. The reeds are close but nobody wants to jump and make a cylinder for the blocks for some reason.

Cmon its the same old played out story here, sure it looks different and it has a different name but seriously the piston port head is flogging a dead horse. You need drop in cylinder liners like the nitros so you can do some real work to them.

In the boating side tiger king has a drop in style cylinder sleeve so the technology is out there I just don't know why nobody wants to jump.

Like Sean said it most likely comes down to moq to get price right and there's just not enough of us.... If I'm not mistaken the sleeves have a complicated metallurgy to them?

My point is what more is there to gain from another piston port head on a reed case? Obr claims 9.4hp on a piston port on a reed case and we know that isn't possible, so my questioj is what more is there to gain other than "new" looks?

I haven't fallen for the hype on any of them. The guys with 34 reeds and Taylor 35s get maybe 2-3 lengths on me off the line with my stock 32cc. For the extra $$$ I don't see it being enough. If I was a smoother driver I'd beat them all with the stock 32cc. Lap traffic is a real thing!

It's could be made of a lot of metals, but realistically some form of iron would be just fine. We sleved a lot of jugs and blocks at the machine shop. Most the time we got the material from LA Sleeve, For parent bore applications. They used to do a lot of older 2 stroke engines, but the port matching was a bear. Was easier to send them out to a specialty company. Few times if they had steel sleeves we would over board them then send out and get them hard chromed. I'd assume nikasil could be an option as well, but I'd assume it would be one of the more expensive options on small batches like we did.

So what do you rekon Zenoah uses, chromed steel?

so what one is better reed or the other one?

The reed. More revs and a little more torque. That's every reed vs piston port.
