It's alive!!!! After hours of screwin around with the large motor mount, the clutch housing is different than the Zen... My dremel took a sh!t so I had to grind the mount by hand. But it's running anyway! I fried my hand on my pipe, that felt great.

Trip..

I was going to swap them, but I don't have a puller to remove the clutch boss. You'll never guess how I had to grind the mount down... I used the side of my brick building, it took a little while but it worked, sortof. It has a slight twist to it so the lay shaft isn't perfectly parallel. So, it's a little tight. I will go pick up a puller in a few days and swap the housings around.

Even though I only ran a half tank through it, the throttle response is excellent very snappy. Sounds a little deeper than it did before. It's hard to tell the power of it in the snow, but it sounds pretty tough.

trip one word of advice from me as i learned the hard way
do not leave your layshaft tight,it will eat bearings off like no tomorrow.

and the worst part it will stress and slow down your engine like crazy..something you don't want.....

i mean that needs to be real loose so it will spin freely with your fingers,an easier way to sort the engine to put it in the right place, you know the short metal rods that mount the engine to the mount? well bend them slightly forward untill you get to your desired spot with the l shaft.

check out my old post layshaft hell ...

That's good advise on bending the tabs, I know it isn't correct right now, I have to get a puller and I will swap out the clutch housing and get her all tip top. I just came back in from running another tank and it is really starting to loosen up (motor and gears) It's not much fun in the driveway because it is all ice, but I can't play in the yard because I have 14 inches of snow. (35cm's I sure do love that magical conversion number mm's to inches divide by 25.4. Inches to mm's multiply by 25.4) See everybody learned something today ha ha...

So, I certainly can't drive in the yard, so I am doing doughnuts in the drive. Thanks again for the tip DC..

Between the marks on the side of the building and the holes in the screen (Or missing screen) Kiss your deposit good by.

Trip: I forgot the clutch housing was different...Seems to me you could use a small block
of wood and hammer and tap the housing to break loose..I have done that before...
Like BTB said make a puller..I have one for the flywheel my self..should work for the clutch..
Ya need my to send you my diamond hand files?seeing how your dermal quit...
You can find them cheap on flea bay like 10 buxs....some times a dermal won't get to what your going to do......Glad for you that your engine is running...Drive the hell out of it to seat the piston ring...Don't baby it....Done that with all my engines..never had a problem.....they were all strong running engines....Best to you my friend...AKASlawhammer

First gallon is through the GP290... It's still running pig rich, but it is really starting to come alive.
The low end snap is very impressive compared to the stock 26. the top end is about the same, I can't imagine what it's going to be like when it is actually "tuned"!
It is pretty hard to run it in this cold 4 degree weather, it gets a little cold on the trigger finger. lol. I got tired of freezing, so I sat in my car with the heater going while I was running the truck!
I found a slab of concrete that allows me to get the tires to grab and she yanks the wheels like nothing. The rest of the parking lot is all black top, but it allows me to work on my Drifting skills, or lack thereof! lol

I remember why I quit running 25:1 oil mix... My silenced pipe has packing in it. After running for a few minutes, it was soaked with oil and dumped all over my back seat. Grrr! Oh well small price to pay to the R/C gods..

It seems louder with this motor, I wonder if it's because of the larger displacement? I couldn't imagine running the Dom pipe you guys do!

Trip..

Sounds good..cold weather got to run rich settings...
I love that rear DOM pipe...Makes great power.......sounds like a 125CC dirt bike..
Love the noise..to hell with neighbors...I put up with there loud music @ 1AM..
fair play ..I would say....Slaw

hi trip hows the gp290 going ive sort of got the same engine but ive got zenoah bottom end with stuffed 28mm crank zero drag seals with a zenoah 36mm piston ddm gp290 esp head its the macined one its not ported it can with a stock gasket which just destroyed its self it blew out big time so i put a 0.15 copper gasket in the standard one never had much squish but the copper one is ok it now has a ton of compresion im using a wt771 carb with alloy inlet malossi boost bottle and a victory pipe its only had 5/6 tanks run in it and its starting to losen up nice now and its hot more than enough grunt for what i need im going to get it apart when its had 10/15 tanks to check the ring and change i think

If you are running it in a Marder, in my opinion, the motor runs out of top end rpm. It's pretty torque-y in the mid, but it is still a little weak on the low end and top end. If I can ever afford it, I will rebuild my stock Zen 26! I do not like the GP290!

im happy with mine mate but ive just got hold of a 23cc zenoah engine as a spare one im going to rebuild it soon not sure on spec yet would like to keep it all zenoah[ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYLntghXgRQ"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYLntghXgRQ[/ame]:2guns:

trip i cant belive you don't like the gp290 it looks good in your truck seems to shove it around well but i can see where you are coming from how ever quick or much power we have we always want some more do you think the 26cc zenoah will perform better as ive just got a 23cc what im going to rebuild as soon as funds allow what would you do with it ie stick with 23cc or 26cc or what you think

What is the motor in? If you have big heavy tires like the FG M/T I would go with the 26 Zenoah and a good pipe. If it is going in a Marder or something with light small wheels I actually prefer the 23cc! Meli (My Fiance and a member on here) whips me with her stock 23 CY and an X Can in her Mutilator in a car park. It seems the rpm never stops, it just revs and revs!

I like the revs of the 23, it has great power for a Marder sized buggy. I like the torque and revs of the 26 Zen for my M/T. The stock Zen 26 was faster and had better all around power paired with my Jet Pro. I don't know, maybe the Gp290 doesn't like my J/P pipe? I miss my 26Zen!

im turning towards the 23cc but race ported one im running a full alloy marder beetle its heavy im using a victory rc pipe which is much better than the jet pro i had before plus a wt771 carb it did go well with my mates 23cc like youve already said revs and revs which i like im not in to flat out every where but on and off the throttle bashing ie like a tight track

The 26cc is definitely the best all rounder. The 29cc gives more torque but you lose out on rpm, the 23cc is the opposite so will be zippy once its wound up :cool2:
