What do you think makes a hobby exist? the easy answer is people that are interested in something participating in it. And no offense but this is a really stupid question. There is nothing existential about this.

Disposable income and spare time to participate in an activity that you don't consider to be work.

There is only one activity that I can think of that doesn't cost money. @Z.hb71 and @dougstar seem to talk about it all the time. Actually, for them it may be an addiction.

I fakcing died ????????????????? what if I like doing that ?

To take the question seriously: For me, a hobby exists as a means to do something that is not essential to survival, but still provides a sense of satisfaction in one's works. We work our jobs to make money that pays the bills, and provides food. The hobby is working towards something that has no immediate practical value, but gives us a sense of accomplishment on our own terms and fulfills the need to "create" in even the most elementary way.

To argue against @Top Dead Center's point, it actually has nothing to do with disposable income. When I was suffering crippling poverty, I still had hobbies. I would paint, draw and make sculptures out of found objects (i.e. trash). It was a means of expression, however meager. Now, of course, RC hobbies require an amount of disposable income, but they are still an expression of creativity at a certain level. If they weren't, you would only have a single model type with no aftermarket at only a single scale.

Of course, there's a lot of "Keeping up with the Jones's" in any hobby, especially RC, but there is still plenty of room for personal expression as well.

The hobbies exist to help youths to stay motivated ,build confidence in them ,teaches kids & young adult good
motor skills ,an helps keep them out of trouble ,like Z ,much like that erector set that kids use to get for Christmas!

No it ain't corn juice. This is the guy that gave us the is the Baja going to die out thread and the is km allowed to make clones, and am I allowed to be a 1/5 scale because I have only have one. May be im being a peepee but all his questions turn into a philosophical debate over nothing in particular.

So i take it the only reason this hobby exists or any hobby exists is because of the amount of people in it correct?
