My nephew is about to be 5yrs and had him out today driving the 1/5. He picked up on it pretty good so I want to get him an electric truck. Something with good parts support and upgradable as he gets better. When it comes to the world of E I'm lost, know nothing. Are there decent trucks that run on nimh? I don't like the idea of a young kid running around with lipo's. Any suggestions to help get my search started would be great! Thanks in advance!

Grab a Traxxas Stampede. You can get them RTR w battery and charger for like $219. They have a training mode in the ESC that makes it much more manageable for the younger kids. We have 2 in our household. Only ever had to replace a rear axle which was like $3. Lol. They are great lil basher/starter trucks. My daughter always laughs as I send it off everything at full speed lol.

You may also want to consider something that doesn't have an issue going through grass. I had a slash vxl 2wd and I sold it 2 weeks later because it had a stupid amount of body roll, it was hard to keep it on the tires as it liked to slide down the street on its roof alot and it was difficult to get it through fresh cut grass as well

My eldest son start with a BSD Baja, its rear wheel drive, parts are easily available and cheap. Comes RTR witha. Brushed motor and NiMh battery. It's been ran over by at least 3 fifth scales which resulted in 1x front arm, that was £6 for a pair with hinge pins. It's been made brushless running 3S but then needed a gearbox which was £15 and that included gearbox, diff, spur and motor plate and shipping. The car itself is only £110, the stock esc can handle 2S.
My 3 year old son is now learning to use it as my 5 year old is onto faster things and 4 wheel drive.
I don't have many pics of it, but here it is with my son proud as punch after taking it mudding, and also next to my Baja and my 6th scale Tamco X5.IMG-20191109-WA0003.webp20200307_165916.webp20191109_150104.webp
