The money spent for a quality engine is wel worth avoiding the headache of a clone engine. Simply put alot is asked for an engine to sustain internal combustion so its really not a good idea to be cheap when building some that absolutely requires to be semi perfect for it to run.

Actually a clone makes our hobby more affordable. Which in turn make it more acceptable for beginners to take up 1/5 scale. Of course it has a steep learning curve, be it using branded or clone anyways.
In fact my intention is to use a clone to race. I would like to see what is the difference of using a fully upgraded car that cost about $10k or more to a stock clone.
It will be an interesting project.

Ok, why make the comment of quality control? At the end of the day if you continue to open your wallet to fix sub par issues what are you gaining? It no longer becomes "cheap". Or is buying clones a way to satisfy impulse buying or the lack of having money to buy the real thing? I'm not being negative and I had to wait to buy my 5ive when I could afford it, but the one thing that can't be overlooked here is by nature we want the best that money can buy but when we don't have that money we look for a substitute to what we want. This is personal observation including myself.
Honestly you were ready to dump tons of money into this car buying a zen motor and other parts.
My buddy also has a 30N and his motor gave out after 3 gallons. He bought zen 32 and still going strong.
He also replaced most of the drive shafts as they were incredibly weak and metal is very soft. Unfortunately you cannot press in new pins as the original pins are knurled and once pressed in is going to enlarged the hole and you cannot install a new hardened pins.
Clutch/spring replaced due to broken spring. Exhaust replaced due to leaking from the welds and so on...
He also replaced the chewed up ring gear on the rear diff and replaced the rear cups with a losi 5T original because the fitment was pretty bad same goes to the rear diff inserts not to mention alot more parts on it. He spent close to $1000 plus the $850 for the car totaling $1850 and still not a real losi.
I hope you have better luck on yours.

What 1/5 scale made by a reputable mfg cost $10k? Not losi, hpi, mcd, fg or anyone else I can think of off the top of my head. And really outside of your own amusement there's no need to do any sort of comparison. The forum search function will yield you all the results you need to quickly quantify moat clone parts are of substandard quality to the original part.
Sure there are better copies, there are excellent upgrades as well, but much of the time that's just not the case.

I have one original HPI Baja 5B.
90% of the parts are upgraded to Turtle Racing and parts from DDM. Nothing much is stock on that Baja. That is easily cost me near to $10k worth of upgrade parts. The 1/5 RC club that I am in, my Baja is considered cheap. There are members that is more crazy than I am.
Therefore, I have also bought a China clone Baja to race and see if it can be worse placement when I raced with my upgraded HPI Baja. Of course, due to race requirements, I have to put in kill switch and replace the pipe to a silent one.

how about posting some pics of yer 10k plus hpi baja then?
either it has every upgrade possible fitted several times over or you were ripped off when buying the upgrades,
a 10k baja is an awful lot,

but i really do not see anywhere near $10k of upgrades on this baja,
you do realise $10k means $10,000 don't you fella?

I am open to criticism. I might be exaggerated when I said my Baja is near to $10k. But including the spares part and tools that I have also a few spare engines. Zenoah of course. 
I really has spent quite a lot. I think you guys understand that the amount add up very quickly. In fact I have 4 x Baja, 1 x Losi 5ive-B (Yes, I do buy original), 1 x Losi DBXL and the 30N Truck. That's just 1/5 scale. 
However, in my club, their Baja, Buggies and Trucks are really very expensive. They are really hard core racers.
I am here just to have fun.
