Light weight Baja

best solution looks wise and easiness wise (is that even a word?) is get hold of a black i-rc alloy chassis brace,
it will add a tad of strength and wont look to out of place if its black (y),
and it will sandwich the carbon chassis between the brace and the front bulkhead,
Hmm food for thought.

I bent my original HPI chassis (beyond repair) half way through the second tank.

I’ve got a Scorpion, Kraken X3 and an Uber rc on the way.

I’m gonna strip them all down and weigh them. The Scorpion has loads of extra reinforcement that previous owner added and it’s bullet proof.

I’ll think of something and keep doing my research. All options considered people so please keep the suggestions coming.

??
Found out through a youtube group that the front chassis part like to break between the 2 bolts where the rovan chassis have issues at. Adding the plate solved the issue for allot of those people. They were using UFO chassis too.
Could you send a link to that please?

I’ll start the build thread once the majority of parts arrive.

Thank you.

Thanks I’ve seen that and have you seen Dean Jeffery’s post? He is Bonehead RC and he’s been running an UBER RC chassis with no issues.

I reckon as long as it’s put together thoughtfully and not with a hammer it should be fine.

A bad crash is a bad crash and it’s down to a bit of luck what damage is done.
miles, deans had some pretty big rolls, crashes etc with that chassis as well, he don't hang about, he's fairly rough when he's bashing matey (y)

What y get?
Haha,

An exhaust (GBE hornet style), diff ring gear and idler gear.

lets hope they’re not made of cheese because I’ve not seen anyone use them before. The idea is reduce the weight in transmission as well to aid spin up. ??

Meant to post this here. I need a rear pipe to fit the TSK B1 or I’ll ha e to chop the cage which I want to avoid.

Make it electric if lightweight is the objective.
6-8S , 2x 3-4s 4000mah lipo 600-800 grams + 8S 1200Kv brushless motor 400 grams + 8S Esc 200 grams.
1,2Kg in total for the entire power system rtr VS 4Kg on average for the gas setup (2.5Kg from engine + these fancy tuned pipes which add 400-500grams + a full tank of gas 500-800grams + 200 grams of rx battery.

I take your point and there are a lot of advantages with going electric, but the reason I got into Bajas’ was for the 2 stroke petrol engine. There is no substitute for internal combustion engines of any type. I can’t put my finger on it, the combination of sound and smell, non linear power delivery. That’s why I don’t drive a Tesla. Also I like tinkering with engines.

...and ? 15...20mins if ur luckly run times ☹☹...been there done that  :ROFLMAO:

He’s also got some wicked 5T with a DBXL body on it that took him ages to modify to fit.
Power to weight is the way to go for all round usage I think.

But that is just my opinion and like the saying goes..................
Why the hell has RPM never made extended arms. It’s beyond me.
Thank you gents,

I’ll post pics of the parts as they arrive.

Is there a “What did the postie bring today“ thread? I can’t remember seeing one on this forum.

Hey Paul,View attachment 69176
I said I’d post a pic of Bass666 bodies. I’ve got all the bits still, matching spoilers and nose pieces.
yo miles, i spoke to gary last night and he's over the moon ya still have his old baja and both the sons and breaking bad bodies (y)(y),
you can imagine what he said in his belfast accent :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:,
he says how are ya as well miles (y)

I just gave an effective solution to the original request; which was “making a lightweight baja”, since any other options keeping the gas setup (as some have already told) won’t make much difference in weight.
If you like gas over electric thats another point
I personally like them both.
But yeah you wont see any noticeable difference in weight swapping parts that are already very small in weight or spending tons of money for it.
Maybe if you get a f1 engineer to colaborate in the project ?

Nice one Paul,

I’m glad to hear he’s still his old self. Next time you speak to him please tell him I said hello.????

Cheers.

I don’t totally agree with you, every little bit of weight saving will add up and should make some difference, particularly in the drive train, which will aid spin up, It should also handle better too

Anyway time will tell and besides there’s not a lot better to right now and I haven’t seen anyone else do it. It’s something a bit different.

And if you wanted to go really fast you could just strap jets to it or throw it out of a plane high enough to reach terminal velocity.

BTW I am an Engineer. ?

lol miles, already told gary ya said hello matey (y)(y),
and yep he aint changed at all :ROFLMAO:

Ok so I’ve bought almost everything g I need for my build. The only thing I’m waiting on is a clutch and engine. I’ve bought as much carbon and Titanium as possible in the vain hope it will be light.

I’m going for Mielke clutch because again weight and I’m waiting for Oddified to replenish stocks. Then I should be good to go, can’t wait.

I’ll do a massive collective what the postie brought me once everything is here. Then I’ll start the build thread.

I can justify the spend through man maths. No foreign holidays for 2 years with a family of 4 means I can buy an expensive handbag to shut her up and buy me a new rig. Although I told her really it’s a rebuild sort of because I’m using some bits I already have???
Needs must and all that. ?
