Back to the original thread ....

Are we saying the KM Baja probably needs considerable upgrading each time one is purchased?
Is it a case that possibly KM rely on good customer relations to assist in making a new purchase a reliable rig, which apparently Dan sometimes does, and this time he didn't?

It does appear from most KM and HPI threads that there is not one ORIGINAL Baja of any description anyway.
Is it a case that manufacturers are increasingly cutting corners, knowing that the majority of purchasers will 'upgrade to reliability' at some stage?

Al.

I have had two KM's and no issues either.Granted the engines are not the best but that was used for four tanks and then binned as I like to make and port my own Zen's.
I have had an issue as did Jackobyte and Jace where the bottom front alloy arm balls wear the arms and are not repairable but that was it.You just had a lemon and don't worry,HPI have made a few lemons too! (I've had one):(

Here is a picture of mine with the original engine and it goes some. @1;12

The only real thing on the KM that I had issue with was the cylinder casting was crappy and a couple good jolts was enough to crack a bolt on the exhaust port, that is what made me buy the ZEN 7 gallons ago and I have been happy since. Most of my upgrades where things that I thought it would take to make it on an MX track and so far it has held up:)

OP you asked for some pics here are links to some of my photobucket albums feel free to ask questions that is what the forum is here for...Brian

How the hell do YOU know what skills I have?? I'd outwrench you sleeping and half dead. Don't open your mouth with your two cents without all info.

I beat the piss out of my KM I got from Dan, and the only issue I ever had was when I flooded the engine once..my fault.

I have friends who have HPI's and KM's, it's really just bad luck if you get a lemon. Sucks to say, but it happens by both companies.

I know on my KM if the engine or drivetrain ever explodes, with the money I saved I could replace it with something as good as, or in some cases better.

I am thinking from the OP yelling and screaming on here that that was the attitude he took with Dan and Dan got fed up with the abuse. Lots of us on here have had nothing but great service from Dan. I have almost 3 gallons on my car since new and only had to rebuild the top end (wanted to upgrade to 29cc anyways), replaced the servos and rebuild the shocks.

ill give an update on my KM 2.0ex that I guess I got maybe a month ago now.

The engine runs good and strong, and all the electronics are still alive despite being driven in rain, mud and through inches of water.

I took the electronics box apart and put a bead of locktite gasketing silicone around the whole thing, and also siliconed around the antenna hole to make it completly water tight. I also put a blob of slicone on all the servos where the wires come out of them...
I also made some windows out of plastic I had laying around, and cable tied them on to help keep crap off the air filter.
I took the side cover off &pull start off, and gasketed those up aswell, then duct taped up all the holes on the pull start. Overall its very protected now for basically no cost other than a little bit of time.

The only real problem, at least with mine, is the crap rear wheels. I blew out both foams, and also stripped the inside hub out of one of the wheels.

They have been replaced by proline desperado wheels & bow tie tyres and some cool axle extenders.

If you have just got a new KM baja and are reading this, I reccomend you take apart the rear wheels, glue the foams on with ados or similar, and also wrap some insulation tape or similar around the foams, reassemble and put glue on the edges of the tyres/beadlock to, with any luck stop your wheels exploding.

Thanks for the great tips!! My foam was wet out of box.

Agreed the foams in the tires are very soft that comes with the KM and the wheels if you don't have the metal center on the wheels they strip very easy and it will be impossible to keep the wheels on. Seems like with all that gluing and tape you would really make the tire very off balance and have alot of wobble in the tire which is very hard on your bearing and performance of the car. Proline and desperado are great wheels and tires but you can also get the 5B ss wheels and foams super cheap on ebay and use the tires that came with the KM and they hold up great

For what it's worth, I've had my KM T1000 for 9 months or so. I've really abused it this year too. It now has a Zenoah motor only because I wanted more power, and it's sporting RPM arms and a couple aluminum upgrades. Overall, it's been a fantastic truck, and one of my favorites. I also got mine from Dan.

yessir!! same thing here! going on 10 hours and just only popped a throttle servo!thanx to nitrorcx i'm back with $24 shipped!installed killer 2 speed locker!walbro 990carb rules!

I got myself a Nitrotek Yama Buggy off ebay (another HPI Baja clone). Have learned a lot about how the two stroke 1/5 scale work and how they go together, I've had to lol. First large car i've owned, took it out of the box and caned it, next time out sent it cartwheeling down the tarmac at full speed (a few scratches but survived). Next time up the local quarry head to head with my mates HPI Baja (not embarrassed at all). Had things drop off but I know now I have to check it over and loctite bolts. Even my mates Baja needs maintenance and new bits. I've upgraded wheel hubs, change to lighter shock oil, HPI wheels oh and painted the body matt black, I aint got a Baja but I only payed a 1/4 of the the price, happy enough. only gripe is I can't change the stock muffler because of how the engine is situated.
Moral of the story is (as some others have said) I got what I paid for.

another update from me :) my KM is becoming less and less KM. It now sports a RCMK cr290f engine, proline desperado wheels/tyres, axle extenders, 19/55 steel gears and all RPM arms up front.
all my electronics are still going strong, it goes hard.
