When I posted above it was Jan. 8th - heres an update as of March 8th 2 months later....

Well gents , its been awhile since ive been on the forum. Winter has been horrible here in Ohio and I have been busy.

An update to my sons KM baja that I bought him for x-mas .There has been lots of parts we have had to replace so far.
First off IF you buy a KM buggy heres a list of items you might want to factor into the final cost.

Electronic's - SUCK badly , if you want a dependable unit , buy a quality controller , reciever and servos w/ failsafe. The junk servos that come with the KM are complete junk and broke after only a few runs. A good unit and quality water-proof metal gear servos (throttle and steering) will cost you . Also the reciever battery pack is junk , buy a replacement SOON !

Rims and tires - don't even run the ones that come with the buggy - exploded both rear rims 3rd day my son ran it.

A arms - buy the HPI ones or RPM ones if not you will soon enough trust me. These A arms are brittle and will crack and break without crashing the buggy.

Clutch - buy an aftermarket one , stock one burns out quickly.

Body - very thin and brittle - buy an HPI buggy replacement.

any plastic parts - luckly the HPI one's will work very well with no modifications.

I have not replaced the shock yet , but I know they will not last very long as they seem to be very cheap too.

Also do make sure to go over the whole buggy and tighten each bolt , lots on his were loose.

Take in mind that this buggy was only run during January as Feburary & March has been to cold and snowy to run it here , so after only ONE month all this stuff had to be replaced.
I knew going into it that I was going to replace parts because others have said they were known not to last. I just did not know I would have to replace pretty much all the parts on this thing . I had lots of the parts ready to go before I gave it to him , but I needed more ...and then more .

After all this , I should have just bought him an HPI baja and saved me a lot of headaches !!!!!!!!! I own an HPI baja SS and have lots of aftermarket parts on mine , we have almost the same amount of money in his than I do in mine. So the "cheap" cost of the buggy originally did not save me anything in the long run.

I was planning on buying the KM truck , but after the experience ive had with this buggy , I will be buying the HPI version and save my self LOADS of hassel in the long run !!!

Best of luck to you guys ,

Matt

PS to those who buy a KM buggy (cant speak for the trucks but suspect there are the same) be prepared to break a LOT of parts and put some money in your KM , if I had to do it all over again , I wouldnt buy the KM ! Once I replace his motor , I basically have a HPI baja with about the same amount of money spent. You get what you pay for holds very true for RC's too.

Never had any issues with my km radio gear,

but i wanted a bit more steering power so i fitted an hpi sfl-10 steering servo

i did make a terrible newbie mistake on the fuel oil mix,

went 50:1 for the first 5 tanks as thats what was printed on the stihl 2 stroke oil i purchased,

eventually the wristpin bearing went to bits and wrecked the bottom end,

left huge marks up the side of the piston and on top of it, and left some small pitting marks on the inside top of the cylinder head,

so i got a new cy 26cc from ebay and fitted that,

but i craved the original 29cc power i once had, so i tried the wounded head and piston onto the cy bottom end and it had little compression and would not stay running,

then i bought a new piston ring reassembled the whole buggy and gave the pull chord a tug, it fired up:celebrate:

added some axle extenders and heres how it went,

I have been reading a lot about the KM T1000 on almost every forum and I still can't decide if I should take a chance on buying one. I have a Firehammer and a Rampage. Both of those needed lots of repairs and mods to make reliable, mostly because of some poor quality parts but they are good vehicles when fixed. I see coyote69 has had some problems with his KM buggy. Is this what most KM owners experience?

All makes have teething problems.....some more than others..

Replace or mod the problem parts as they show up with good aftermarket stuff and you will eventually end up with a very tough & reliable machine.

Km fun

I have hag my KM 29cc Buggy for 2 months and it is great. I use it alot almost every weekend.I am hard on that little buggy and it comes back for more. I think they are good and yes i have had to fix some things but thats R/C. here is a vid of my KM in action.

I ordered a T1000 last night. What tuned pipe do you guys use? I like the look of a rear exhaust v2 Dominator but the power of that new 5T Dominator pipe is awesome.

your tune is what blew the engine, no the oil or ratio.. when you change the ratio, you need to change the tune. i run up to 100:1 with amsoil saber and have no issues... i also run redmax power equipment oil and stihl @50:1 with great results after a tune.

i was mixing 100mm of stihl oil with 5 litres of petrol,

and was running stock carb settings,

when i tore down the engine it was bone dry inside not even a trace of oil in there,

imo the lack of oil in the mix blew the wristpin bearing as it was running dry

Been mixing at 200ml to 5 litres of fuel since then and all is well:)

just bored out my rear hinge brace to 10mm

and fitted some 10mm x 6mm x 3mm flanged bearings to my rear a-arm hinge

pins on my baja :off-topic: lol

man that takes out some slop at the rear:)

First post from the new guy

Hi all,
Finally I found a forum that isn't stuck on HPI.
I just purchased a King Motors T 2 speed from Dan, It should be here next Thursday. I'm stoked ! Also I ordered the Dominator clone pipe from there as well. It's the one that tucks up in the rear, not loop over the tank. Hope that was a good decision.
I must say--The gal (Irene) I dealt with there was very informative & professional. If thats what all the HIP guys are talking about having no service, I think I'm covered.
I'm hoping the 29 engine hasn't been started yet as I'd like to pop the head & port it without chasing down a gasket.
OK, heres a cool deal, I have a trade going w/some kid probably today for his HIP B for a turbo I'm not using. I think the wife gets this buggy. It has outerweres on the pull start & the filter. Looking at the KM T1000 it seems they put some sort of plastic shroud over the pull start. Does it still need an outerwere ?
I know its been a long time sense anyone posted on this topic, but it should be back from the grave.

Cool forum folks---Proflow

Welcome proflow, yes, this forum has its own clone thread as alot of the members here own them. The cover over the pullstart doesn't do a great deal so i would go with an Outwears.
