ran a couple of tanks in the beast on sat, had a ball, once again didnt miss a beat and packed it up in working condition.

I think the rear shockers are getting a bit saggy, i know nothing about shockers so wondering what I need to do to check if all is working, is there anything I should be looking for?

its got elcon alloy shocks all round.

take the shock off, flip it upside down and work the piston in and out. listen for the squeek of air bubbles... you will feel it too. flipping the shocks makes the bubble travel through so you will really feel it in the middle. it will get easy. and you can hear it. the more air the bigger that easy space will be. can do it on the buggy too just flip it upside down and work the arm

sweet thanks, ill take them off and check it, i was thinking its either got a bubble in it or low on fluid.

if its just an air bubble should I just drain and re-fill with new fluid?

had a run with the beast on sunday. decided to take it to one of the local bmx tracks. its only a small one with small jumps so nothing serious but had my first failure (decent one anyway).

about to finish my first tank and it stopped turning right, had a quick look and either the output gear is stripped or the servo horn is stripped.

haven't had a chance to pull it apart yet as ive been working on the 4WD but should get a chance later this week.

finished working on my 4WD last night so started on the beast. took the radio tray out, removed the servo.

really weird, horns not stripped, output/horn gear looks a little old but ok. the gear is wobbling so soemthing loose internally, either bearing has failed or a gear has let go.

instead of buying a new servo I want to try and repair this one as the circiut board appears to be fine.

can someone recomend where I can buy a gear set from and will it include a bearing?

ok got everything out of the box and WOW, it looks SPECTACTULAR!

so strong and purposful!

fitted my spare receiver to it last night. this one glitched a long time ago in my FG MT and i didnt use it again, but thought would be ok to bench test with.

anyway here are the pics, massive bag of spares, almost enought to build a stocker LOL

hopefully start working on the brake system tonight.

are those fitted with wheel adapters if so witch as those don't look like fg wheels

this are HPI rims and tires. yes wheel adaptors are fitted, called wheel wizards, i have them on both my FG's, in total done over 100 tanks with them and they have never missed a beat.

thanks i mite get some for my fg are these simple fix on no mods needed doing, 100 tanks bloody hell your cars do get used alot i just about get to use mine once a week.

ordered my gear set, hopfully get it tommorow. going to put some fresh oil on my shocks tonight, im thinking FG 2,000wt, should give it good feel on the flat and a bit of cushioning for small/medium jumps.

got my gear set (thanks PSR) this morining. already fitted it to the 5745 case, plugg it in (not installed) and works fine. no more play nothing. absolutley perfect, like new!

comes with everything you need to rebuild (assuming the fault is gear or bearing related like mine), new gears (all of them), o-ring, and 3 bearings.

hopefully ill get time tonight to put it back in the radio tray and do a bench test, if not its going to need to wait until the weekend.

decided to take the shocks apart last night, they were a bit too soft for my liking, tends to bottom out quite easy, well I found out why, not a drop of oil in any of the shocks! :o

what liquid can I use to clean out the shocks before I put new oil in? got a bit of gunk in there, is kero ok?

thanks, might pick some up, if I cant get my hands on any do you think kero would damage any of the o-rings? ill hit it with a compressor straight after so the kero wont be in there long.

didnt get around to working on the shocks last night, having too much trouble with the radio tray atm.

ot the rebuilt servo on the radio tray last night and having a heap of trouble trying to get rid of the slop where the servo saver shaft goes through the ratio tray.

i don't know if the hole in the radio tray for the shaft is flogged out a bit or if im putting it back together wrong, ive tried shimming etc but nothing seems to be working.

is there a special part that stops play when bolting the saver to the radio tray?

Is the bolt as tight as it can be? You may need to cut down the bolt or add a washer to get it as snug as it needs to be. Are you sure the bottom screw is tight? Are you sure the shaft is not broken at the bottom threads.

shaft not broken as far as I can tell, screw from bottom isnt in. the play is where the shaft goes through the front of the radio tray. i think there needs to be a special washer to stop this play.

the shaft im talking about goes through the centre of the servo save, held in place one bolt from bottom of chassis and one bolt from top, also holds a bracket in place to secure radio tray to front shock mounts (if that makes sense.

ive tried using washers to shim but makes no difference, i really think there must be a special washer to hold the shaft in place.

I know the alloy saver is a bit different but did you make sure the c clip was installed?

Is your saver post going through the plate? The plate should rest on top of the post then the bracket then the bolt squishes them all together.

thats the shaft im talking about, no mine doesn't have the c clip, ill get some photo's of it tonight, i know when I took it apart there was no c-clip on it to beging with.

its got me puzzled.

scott at vancouver hobbies bought a used baja and said he was having issues with his and asked me for pics to compare. sounds like things get worn, maybe the servo tray?
