Oh Yeah..The great news is after inspecting the firehammer for any loose bolts...
I only found 2..They were the exhaust bolts...If loosen again I will safety wire them..
So I am real pleased with that 10 minute shake down run yesterday...
I am going to try and get out some time later for a full tank run today...Got to get my son
motivated..He's got a little problem starting his nitro after the rebuild...I can get it running
but he needs to do this on his own..learn about air/fuel mixture and how it all comes together..to run and make adjustments....I will keep ya posted on the firehammer..
All replies welcome..AKASlawhammer

Yeahhhhhh .....another good test run...Those tires grab right now..wheelies on demand
I only got too run for about 15 minutes though..Miss's for got too tell me she had a
appointment today for her nails to be done..(woman thing)Well she may have told me
and I blew it off to say..Well my son ran his nitro...for about 1/2 tank of fuel..seems like
some thing jumped in his way..He broke a lower control arm and ripped the cap off 1 shock
..looks like threads are snapped off..But I was very very happy today..All good.. nothing broke..like every time out before...I have to inspect all the bolts and screws again ..
I should be able to run in the morning..I will be the only one here....
Just thought I would let ya know ..I had a good run with the firehammer..All replies welcome....AKASlawhammer...P.S. You guys in the forum are what it's all about..You sharing with me...All you Guys Rock....

Feels great to have a great run huh??? :w00t:

I ran the Firehammer MT this evening! I get to the field I normally run and what did I forget??? Gas! Luckily had enough in the FH and the Baja to make some good runs.

The FH did outstanding. The Beetle body on that thing is well worth the $130 price tag. I flipped that thing really bad and was cringing to think what it did to the body. Didn't do anything to it. It just rolled, end over end without even a slight crack. Everything came to an end when one of the wheel nuts in the rear spun off. Didn't have an extra. I also noticed the screw that holds the transmission brace to the large motor mount backed itself out again....Slawhammer, what did you do to keep this from happening? Did you put a long screw in there, cut off the head and then thread on a locknut? I'm really tired of this thing coming loose. Other than that, the FH ran outstanding. I'm still waiting for the 23 to die so I can replace it with the 26cc big bore kit.

As for the Baja, lost an axle pin. I have no idea how that happened. I hit a jump and the Baja flew in the air about 8 ft, spun around landed on all fours, then wouldn't go. I took a look and found that the axle pin was gone. How does that happen? Weird.

Anyway, all in all, it was fun hour of driving. The best part was when a couple kids asked if they could buy these at Walmart.

CSP1971:Well all in all you had a great day...sounds like a strong body for the firehammer
..As too your question on the screw in large engine mount for tranny brace..
Is your mount alloy or plastic?..I had the same problem twice and stripped out 2 transfer gears and 2 lay shafts....I have both engine mounts alloy...Where the screw goes for the large mount..I think I used 4 mm stainless steel cap screw..You need to cut the cap off.I put JB Weld on a tooth pick
and filled the hole ..Or you can put jb weld on the screw ..if on the screw ..leave some room for the lock nut..clean threads..The new stud now.. I put on a self locking nut just a couple threads are fine for this....screwed it into the hole by hand..let cure 24 hours..after 24 hours.. unscrew the lock nut when cured ..put your brace over the stud you made..small flat washer then lock nut..I also put clear finger nail polish over the heads of the screws. If a screw loosens up it will crack the polish and turn white..so you will know you got a loose screw to watch for..P.S. you have to be real cauious if you do this ..NOT TO CROSS THREAD OR STRIP THE THREADS on that stud you made...Make this stud at your own risk..It worked for me..has not loosened up..
Hope this answers your question...Thanks for your reply..All replies welcome..

Oh I forgot too mention yesterday..My son was helping with the loading of the RC trucks
in the back of the big pick up truck tail gate and dropped my friehammer..right on the exhaust stinger..Yup Bent the pipe in to the roll cage support..Not sure of any warrenty
So I am going to e-mail DDM..See what they say..I am not looking for a freebie pipe on this
..I don't work that way..Things happen..I was not mad or even up set..I could have done this my self also..Cuz I have a weight restriction of 10 lbs ..lift only... by the doctor's orders....But all in all I am happy with the firehammer..All replies welcome ..

I think I might try this out (both of my mounts are alloy). I'm tired of this part coming loose, and sounds like what you have done will work well.

Oh crap! Maybe it's fixable.

Ok ..I did another inspection of the bolts and screws...Again only 2 that have loosened
up are the exhaust screws..All the rest are tight..yup even the tranny brace screw is tight.
So I now think..by making that a stud post will solve many problems on the firehammer..
Just be care full is all not to cross thread or strip the threads..A lock nut will work fine
just snug it up tight ..is all you need..Do not over tighten..So on the last 2 test runs of 10 minutes..this was fine now after the runs...Looks like safety wire for the engine bolts..
Just thought you would like to know ..it all works now..All replies welcome..AKASlawhammer
CSP1971>>> go for it..Make the stud....

CSP1971: I don't think the pipe reusable..I got it worked out with DDM and a new pipe is
on it's way..should be here in 3 days..So looks like a good bash this week end...hope it will not be raining then..Cuz I am really looking forward to having fun now.....

What’s up Slawhammer.
Been busy lately.
How is your health & family? All is will I hope.
And how is your FH MT.

Shiny: Hey good to hear from ya..As too the firehammer you should read some of the thread ..what's been going on about the mods I have done...
Well the health think ..some days are good and some are not so good..The meds help..
but it sorta puts you in a different world all together as to your thinking or trying to
repair or build on the RC project..Hard to explain..some thing like La La land..just relax's you
out..You just want to lay around and watch TV or a movie..
Well a little off /topic My son has been asking about gasser's 1/5 scale..He said he has
been reading about different RC Units...I suggested the Baja SS Kit..
Cuz with him he's all about speed...Any other suggestions on this? All replies welcome

Baja SS is the perfect choice. How hard does he beat on rc's?

Hard Driven

Baja SS is the perfect choice. How hard does he beat on rc's?
He drives them hard ..but does not abuse them.He knows he has to pay for any repairs ..I have most stuff on hand for the nitro..enough to build another complete truck..2 engines parts to build complete..He pays me for what the parts cost..there all price listed..when I get them..so I don't forget what it cost..when bought them..Thanks for the reply..All replies welcome

Well the front brake set is shipped for the firehammer..some thing said to me better check the drive blocks..guess what there is no groove for the snap ring..that keeps the disk from falling off the back side...So looking in my box of stuff I find 2 drive blocks with grooves,,
I now have too file these blocks too fit the wheels...Like the miss's say's you don't have any thing else better to do..I will be filing those in the morning..getting all ready for the brake set...Yup it's great to be retired...90% of the time for the RC Hobby...
I will keep ya posted..I thought about try to do a couple vids..before I do the brakes..
It's going to take a while to remove that epoxy putty...I never have done a vid..so not even sure how to post one...I guess it's time to learn..There is a movie thing on my camera...point and shoot..But what to do next..I have no clue...All replies welcome..

So I'm looking at my Firehammer tonight trying to decide when to do the jb weld - stud - locknut mod to the tranny brace. While I'm looking, I notice this hole on the crankcase which allows a 5mm screw to be threaded in it (see homemade red arrow):

(yes Slaw.....I stole your pic and modified it! :D)

UpperScreenMod2.webp

Since I don't know what the purpose of this hole is, I'll assume one of you probably does and will tell me not to try and bolt on another type of brace using this as another connecting point for said brace. Anyone????

CSP1971: Yup that hole goes clean thru and blot will hit the fly wheel..unless you come from the inside out.and lock nut on the out side..I seen that same hole when replacing the fly wheel...I think this engine is used in different models and it is another mount point..
I was thinking of coming from the inside out with a bolt and have a brace come back to the shock tower...But you would have to do both sides of the engine ..as not to tilt it to one side..The is another hole on the left as you have the engine now higher up on the cylinder....So far the tranny mod bolt has not come loose ..with the stud I made..
All replies welcome AKASlawhammer
PS..Using my pictures is fine any time..your welcome..any time..Just a simple thank you is all for I done all
the work to share with every one..
PS:2 These engines are also used for the go-ped scooters..So they use different mount points....

I'm aware they are used for scooters.

Since the hole isn't used on rc's, then it would be easy enough to use it without interfering with the flywheel. I'd almost rather double up especially if someone isn't in to filling their expensive alloy mount with jb weld. My concern with doing that is the stud could become bent out of shape, which is quite possible if the other bolts holding the engine down come loose. Then you end up with a useless engine mount. I'm not certain using that bolt in that location would tilt the engine to any degree more or less than the other location on the tranny brace. I

Csp1971: Well as to the engine mount ..yes it is costly..I my case there were no threads
left..they were stripped out..So with that I thought.. what the heck maybe I can safe this
mount..That is why I made the stud...If you use the case hole ..you should come from the in
side out..and lock the bolt on the outside of the case...I thought of that also..If I do that extra brace..I would think a alloy rear shock tower would be better to use to be strong..I thought if the engine mounts slide forward..I would drill a hole in front of the mount support and install a cup screw there and lock nut the underside..Not it can't move....Just a couple of thoughts...Bullet proof..to say...I see where your coming from on the mount..Thanks for your reply..All replies welcome..AKASlawhammer
