Today I got the Hostile AT tires..and some beadlocks....Man those are a real pain
to get mounted up...The baja star wheel ..foam and the tire are about the same size as the
tires on the Friehammer MT.. very close....Rain here today..same for the next 3 days...
The tire compound seems real good and some what soft..should have super grip...
I will have the thing doing crazy wheelies...I will have to weight the front end down....
Enclosed pictures of the tire mounted up.....Slawhammer...

Are those not the MOST BITCHIN' tires EVER? That looks AWESOME! :cool2:

What did you use on the bottom of your chassis to prevent flex? Just a strip of aluminum/sheet metal? I'm too lazy to search for a nickel in an ocean.

Hey Bigger..see you found that nickel..thanks for your help...
As to the slawhammer special...I want to start it up..no go..nothing..not even a pop
so got new spark plug..checked it for spark...got nice spsrk...took off the fuel lines and blew back to the tank..air bubbles in the tank...so not clogged up...I figuered the
the screen in the carb is clogged up...no time to mess with it now..So I installed
a new carb...set the needles and primed the fuel bulb....2 pulls ..vroom vroom
Ok only had a little time to run the special......All I have to say is those Hostile AT the
Tires are bad ass wicked on the grass...It threw about 1 foot of grass and dirt both
rear wheels digging in....On cement ..the tires are little hard..wants to spin
and it was only about 45* degrees out so the cement would be cold....
It is a killer in the grass ..So the dirt should be better yet....
Bigger The Better..you will want this set up.....Make you a awesome ride....
I will try to get a video some time sunday..show ya how she dig's in.....
That was on a short test run today maybe 5 minutes.....LOVE IT....
I think I am pretty well set now for some good times....Slawhammer...

That is the 1st look of them I have seen. I have to also say they are a lot more agressive then I thought they would be. The knobbies are cool but I bet the ones you have will wear overall better. I like'em!

Bigger..if you go with the hostile tires ..you will love em...
CSP..ya know funny you should mention that on mounting the tires...
My son came home from fishing last night..I told him what a female dog those tires were to mount up...He looks at it and said you should have rolled them inside out...
just like the link you showed.....I tell ya that kid is pretty smart at things ...
He is getting a 5b baja kit to build...Thanks for the replies guys....
sharing is where it is at.....I will try to get a vid of those tires ripping up the grass...
All replies Welcome...Slawhammer....

Not up too par the last couple days..flu bug.....
The last outing killed my firehammer.....I took it out Sat ..was going to do a vid of the tire hook up on grass....I warmed it up made a couple short laps ..while my son was getting the camera....Any way..that thing rip alright.....tore hell out of the firehammer....
I had to shut it down.....cooling head came loose....causing damage to the fly wheel
cuz the coil dropped....chewed up trasfer gear....all bearings in the gear plate
had about 1/8 inch movement....there all shot...brace came loose on the diff supports..
Now all this was tight before and checkedfor any loose bolts,screws,ect....
I have the firehammer tore down..........
I drilled and tapped out the marine head..while still together...didn't go thru the cylinder anyway...tapped out to 4mms....filed & sanded the flywheel............
the cooling head & coil are lock-tited with RED....
I retapped the alloy large engine mount and reworked it for a custom fit to the clutch case.....
All new bearing & repacked bearings in the gear plate.....New transfer gear...
Going to retap the alloy diff supports.............
So all is setting now to cure over night......Ready too put back together in the morning..
As else fails....Chalk up the marine cylinder....go on to build some thing else...
would have been better to leave the spur gear plastic...for a weak link in the drive train
So there ya have the lastest.....Slawhammer,,,,

Trip....yup..I would like too have it all happen at once like it did..get it over with
with little cost for repairs and get on with it..So can have so fun bashing it...
run it hard......I am ready to build up another engine just in case this fails...
worse come's to worse...I will hard wire the cooling head on....got some bailing wire?
I will see how it goes in a couple days..weather permits....Thanks for the reply....
.............................Slawhammer..............

By God trip..I think your on to something there....
ya know that may just work....maybe bubble gum to boot for good measure....
what a cob job to make run.....Slawhammer

Re working the Hog

Well now I have been busy for a few hours on the firehammer....
I got it all hog tied up (cooling head)..new LB Clutch installed....New Hobby River
Gear plate..New bearings ..I packed those as well....New Cat 5 gears on a alloy carrier
Those were my back up gears....New layshaft..New Trasfer gear...new fiber brake disc's
new stainless steel brake plates.......
I had thought about the rear diff..so I took it out..good thing the bearings were rough..
Now as there froze on the diff...you got to be smarter that the object....
I went and got a auto battery terminal puller....modified the arms...
heated the froze bearing with a pen torch...I use the engine firehammer mount washer
to fit inside the bearing...just a tad smaller than inside dia...hook up the puller....
vola ..bearing is off.......I installed new fast eddie bearings......The internals for the diff is good....So I am about to mount the engine to the chassie....
Now Bigger The Better says he likes to use automotive stickum stuff spray it on the chassie...or some red lock tite on the engine mounts................
Well I tell ya what I am going to use.....double back sticky tape....4 small squares...
that should do the trick just fine.........
I lube the gears....I use a product called ..DRY ICE...goes on wet and dires..leaves a film
for lube.....does not attract dirt ,grim..not effected by water....I have used this product for years on many different things........I think maybe tower has the product....
simple touse..shake the bottle..pour in a small item..I use a plastic pop cap ..
use a water color brush....apply to the gears...there ya have it ..just that simple...
Enclosed are some pictures of the lastest on the project.....
Now If this marine cylinder & cooling head fails....So be it...
I ordered another top end kit at 9am from DDM at 4pm.. It was shipped today...same day..
can't beat that.....So I will be ready to rebuild another tope end if need be this week
end...............Guess my break time is over for now......Slawhammer

Hey bigger the Better..The dark soul Cooling Head came with 2 tiny 3 mm counter sunk
screws..like maybe 8 threads....Goes in to the marine cylinder........
I did use red lock tite and snugged down ans let set over night...as per instructions
from ted at dark soul.....as you know by heat the lock tite will melt....
I think the was vibration on those screws ..when I tried to use different 3mm screws the was not threads in the cylinder.........I took every thing off the firehammer to get to the cylinder..I tapped new 4mm holes.....applied red lock tite.....as a safety measure
I now safety wired the cooling head down.....I figure I will run it for a few hours to see
what happens..to the 4mm bolts....If thay stay tight then I will cut the safety wires....
Sort of a bad way top go about this....seeing how I just got the engine running good...

Well the engine is mounted up and the rear end is all done....
I have yet to mount the fuel tank..carb..roll cage system ..exhaust ...and tires....
I will do that in the morning...Miss's don't want the gas smell in the house...
she will be gone to work so It won't take long to do..and in a couple hours if any or what smell there is will be gone........
So I am taking the rest of the evening away from the firehammer.........
This is a hobby ..not a 8 hour job........Slawhammer...

Hey trip my friend.....Now ya know I am no boss......just a northern red neck
transplanted south.........As For the firehammer project..I can always figure some thing out to make it work.......I should be out in the afternoon for a good test run....
All goes well..gona let it rip........kill that engine if I have too..............
I got some thing else in mind for another power plant.........So I all ways have a back up
..I would be down more than a day.... any time this coming year....lot of parts...
what I used today will be replaced this next week....things always happen on a week end ....for break downs and ..have to wait for parts to be ordered or shipped......
I will have enough parts on hand to build another unit...as spare back up parts for my firehammer....................thanks for the replies guys......Slawhammer

Looking good Slaw! I didn't get my damn flywheel today by the way. I remembered why I hate ordering from California, it always takes about 4-5 days. Last time I do that when I'm in need.

Ready for a Baja yet??
We beat the Firehammer this last wekend and all I need is a rear tire and a roll cage.
The baja needed a rear wing.
Got seven guys together this run and it was a blast.
2 MCDs 1 FG 1 Fireammer and 3 Bajas. and no camera.
