Hey teamchrome..I have no need for a baja....This firehammer is all I need..
This one cost enough to keep repaired.......1 old man = 1 toy car...
Glad you guys had fun...next time take picture....Slawhammer

Teamchrome..Hear ya my friend....I got the firehammer all back together...
So I am going out later for some testing..on those slaw strings to hold down the cooling head......They should be fine..my main intrest is the bolts..holding the cooling head...
If the stay tight..then I will cut the safety wires....(there not in the way)so I could leave them...........Run the hell out of that engine......Check with you guys later..Slawhammer

Well That marine head be JUNK.....I ran it maybe 10 minutes....just quit..
tryed to started it up..can't pull the pull starter....Imean it is tighter than peepee's hat band
I though maybe the coil dropped on the flywheel...As to the cooling head screws I tapped out..there still tight.............I will be taken the engine top end apart today....
If the coild did not drop down to the flywheel..the I would guess a c-clip let go on the piston wrist pin.........carb was still on factory base settings...High 1 3/8 LOW 1 1/4
spark plug ids black.....so that say's rich....I don't think piston ring seage...
Well Guess I tried the marine head thing..........now stuck with a Dark Soul Cooling
head I have no use for...........I have different top end coming....should be here later
today.......so another rebuild.....All else fails again....I will buy a complete engine....
I just want to get out now and use my firehammer.....I have pretty well got most upgrades done with mods that needed to be done............................
So stay tuned for more to come from this project.............................
Hope your all learning some thing from this......I should have just stayed with fishing...
.................All Replies Welcome........Slawhammer..............

Hey Trip...Yeah I could have had the G260 by now easy....
Well I have 1 more head top end kit to try.......And like ya say all else fails.....
that little G260 engine will be going in the firehammer.....For all the screwing around I could have had 2 new G260 engines.....Ready to go.....There a great little engine.....
But I like to build things.....Just like the old motorcycle days....ya build up a dirt bike engine
same as snowmobile engines....just cuz ya like doing it...............
Any way my friend ..Note taken on the G260 engine....It was my thought if all else faild

Firehammer Rear Duel shocks

Engine build on hold...Item sent to me was wrong..I have the correct item coming..
should be here next Tue Or wed...........
So I have a little spare time today..in between getting ready for the holiday
I got some FG shocks a while back...I wanted to make duel shock set up for the firehammer
so I had to go to ace hardware for metric bolts...used some 3/16 brass tubing for spacers
Had some plastic spacers for the lower arms....it turned out pretty good....
Fg shocks are better.....I found the springs on the shocks are a little weak...
so that will be the next thing to do...stiffen it enclosed picture of the shocks...
Took a couple hours of messing around.........................

Brass Shock Incerts

Thanks Bigger..it was a fun little mod to do...It should work out well...
just have to get the springs stiffer is all......Slawhammer.....
Add On: pictures of Fg Shock with brass incert...

The Fg shocks just have a 3mm hole in the ends..I drilled out the holes to 3/16 inch..cut 3/16 inch brass tubing
to make the incert bushing....This will keep from elongating the plastic hole...

Trip..you might want to make bushings for your Fg Truck...Think the brass tubing was
$1.35 for a 12" pc......Yeah I am always thinking for improvements....
As to the springs..it just sags..down ..no spring back....I will add a couple spacers see what happens......lighter weight oil?....I have 50 wt...thought that would be good for
kind of mils jump on landing........Need Ideas on this...Slawhammer

I have the stock springs and oil (5000wt I believe) 1, 1/2" clip-on preload spacers on each shock on the rear.

One 1/2" clip on only one of the shocks up front.

I've never had it bottom out, but It does bounce a bit..

Slaw I just remembered. I needed to use some of the spacers that Trip shows above but did not have any. I used a piece of rubber tubing cut to the height I wanted it and installed it on the top of the shock like the adapter. The stock FG shock spring is made weak and the kit comes with spacers to stiffen it.

I found some clips in the rat box..same as trip's setup now....still sags..no spring back
may have too use a weight oil....have no idea what's in them....What do ya think
for weight oil? 5,000 or 7,000......I have 50,000....was suggested to use that if at all going off any kind of jumps.......Slawhammer

If you go with a heavier oil it won't compress or rebound as fast. If you want more rebound you may have to add more spacers or use some stiffer springs, maybe some old valve springs? If you don't have any preload clips, you can use zip ties also..

THose numbers are typically used for diff oils, I am running 50 front and 60 rear on mine.

Clubin....Like I mentioned I have a new bottle of 50..I just got the Fg shock repair kit
today..so I will rebuild up 4 shocks....I have new front cross shocks installed now
they seem fine........Thanks my friend....I know those there numbers were also used in nitro shocks....but out have much smaller shocks.....Thanks again....Slawhammer

No, your right. Across the pond they use 1000 numbers. I think the stock FGMT is either 2000 or 20,000 I cant remember?

Here is the piece I needed. Remember the FG's are a taller shock.

Here is it after I wrapped it in a homemade shock wrap.

Bingo! Left over from my FG pipe. I got it at Napa Auto Store, it was catalytic converter tubing but any tubing will work. I remember seeing some silicone tubing at Menard's in the plumbing area that might work or Home Depot.
