I can honestly say I felt your pain. At least you missed the front end and didn't bend the chassis. 30$ is a cheap mistake with these monsters. Good to hear the damage wasn't too bad. Dang posts!
All posts should have a sign by them that says "Caution Post"
Then all caution signs should have a sign "Warning Sign"

You know I would still hit the dang Warning sign since there was nothing warning me about it sticking 3 signs out from the pole. :lol:
 
Hey Bigger..the only pain was bragging that car to the house..it was about 30 yards away
weighing 30 lbs.....I have a restriction of 10 lbs..by doctor's orders....I am going too have too use a dog leash..hook it to the front bummper and drag it along....the repair cost
was minor....too what I have spent on the engine rebuild's.....Thanks for the reply...

the market is for RC right now......Ther nice unit's but not for me....
Well I had the firehammer back out for a bit this morning....Things are running good..
engine getting stronger....I have come to the conclusion with the marine set up ...you have to be running dam near WOT for any kind of performance from the engine....
1/2 throttle & up is great...It does not like to be on/off throttle in short burst's...
steady pull on the trigger it gets faster & faster....till ya hit WOT.......
I got out for maybe 30 minute run...so all was good....about 75*degree's out now......
butis going too hit high 80'S or 90* later..so wanted too get out early........
Like I mentioned so far so good on this top end build......Slawhammer
 
I made extra hinge pins with bolts. I had some really long bolts with no threads down the shaft and cut and tapped the ends and used a nyloc nut. well on my upper rears. as I need new pins I am going to replace the rest that way. nyloc nut over c clips anyday for me.

good job on the damage, reminds me of a nitro runaway hehe.
 
Hey Pipe..That might work for me..on the front end...be close on the back end for hitting the engine....My pins are 6mm by 88mm for the front & 6mmx66mm for the rear....
I will keep that in mind for future ref..I could buy some rod and thread it for what I need...

Ok then the last of my parts showed up to day in the mail for the 2 spd....So I can rebuild that now...Ready to try that....I will have to find another place to run... that is longer to get speed up....get a Gps reading............Weather here is to get up to 90's
rest of the week.......So have too get out early morning.....

Ive been trouble free since I put mine on..
I might have a firehammer for sale soon..
I run the Baja so much the Hammer just sits and waits like a scolded pup.
Any interest??
 
Another good run with my firehammer this morning..I tell ya this keeps getting better & better.....Hey team chrome..I am not sure at the moment of buying another firehammer..
I like mine so far..but I am not sure what my son wants to do...about a 1/5 scale unit...
he has changed his mind so many times.....his first chioce was a baja5b..then firehammer
and now redcat tt....He see's I have very little problem starting my firehammer up...
as to nitro stuff....We went around on issue's I had with the 3 top ends for my firehammer....But I told him that was not the Rc Unit's fault....Things do happen no matter what ya have.....I just had a bit of bad luck was all........................
Well let ya know what the son want's to do about buying a Rc Unit....Slawhammer

good....I figure after I start on the second gallon of fuel..I will install the 2 spd...

CSP..you bet ..when I get it swapped over..maybe this next week....I just finished
rebuilding the 2spd back to new..with all new parts.....There will be a video plus a speed reading from the GPS.....Slawhammer

Cant wait to see the vid, as we have'nt seen it yet since the rebuild...:)
 
Hey super..I have a vid ..some place with the marine head ..driving it some place..
But you can be asured there will be a new vid soon..with the 2 spd.....
yup about time some thing went my way for a change....3 top ends with in a month....
I hope to get out in a while today for more engine time....slawhammer
 
Hey Super...Well bad day for the old slawhammer here....Started to mist out today..
so thought I would install some bling I got a while back.....Well the FG alloy rear arms
don't fit..well they fit but I need longer dog bones...so forget thet idea for now..put the plastic back on...Now for the 2spd.....I take off the stuff to get to the old gear plate..
time too check the clutch shoes anyway...ther good yet...While I am at it..I thought I
seen some seepage from the cylinder base gasket....So off with the pull starter..fan cover...coil...now the dark soul alloy cooling head....I checked the marine cylinder bolts.
there all tight.....Dah I remembered I spilt some fuel last time I filled up the tank...
No big deal ..god to check those any way....every thing back together on that side of the engine...........Now for the 2spd....It just won't line up with the CY clutch case...
and larger engine mount for lay shaft...Holes are off maybe half...The 2 spd carrier is for FG....I messed with this for about 10 minutes.......Said not today...Maybe I need got get a zenoah clutch case or FG alloy large engine mount....Fg chassie pan...mount holes are different.....,,So screw this...I put it all back together for now......
so there was 5 hours for nothing today...........................
My son went fishing today..he called meand wanted me to come and get him...seems his buddy had left early.....No big deal the firehammer was back together.....
So in about 15 to 20 minutes I get my son...He asked how things went with the firehammer for the installing of items........I explain my delima to him........
we got almost home and he said .."can't ya just use the gears & shafts in the gear plate you have now on there"and not the FG carrier plate........Dah ya know to much going on.....That boy has a head on his sholders................
So I guess I will give that a try before I have to order any thing..........
Well now that it is back together I am just going to run it some more for a second gallon
on the engine.......then to see if the 2 spd gears & shafts will work on my current gear plate..........So that's the lastest.......Oy yeah any one know how long the FG Dog Bones are??? Thanks...All Replies Welcome.....Slawhammer
 
Hey Slaw, if the bog bones are too short does that mean it will have a wider track with the FG lower arms? if so then your turn buckles on the upper arms will have tobe extened? make sure there is enough thread on them or you will need longer one's?

Just a thought....Super...:)

Hey super...no the other way..ya have to shorten the upper arm length..with the Fg lower arms..my firehammer dog bone are to short to reach the drive cup..like about 1 inch..
I am short as possiable now...maybe cut the threads on the turnbuckle shorter....
I will give it som thought and look at it in the morning.....Slawhammer
 
Wider track would be nice for the rear end....I will look in to this later...this next week
I hope to get out for a run some time soon before it rains here.....I will install the Fg arms and take a picture so ya get a idea of what I am talking about....by short dog bone

Well ya know I said it before...when things are good...look out....
I was out this morning really running hard...all wot for 90% of the time....
Engine went....zero compression...think collapsed piston ring..besides that the spark plug blew..out the hole......color of the plug is blackish to brown...so not running lean....
I will be checking this in a couple hours...have to let cool down...to see what the damage is......I have 1 more marine cylinder...to use...for the 4th time ....If this next one don't..work..I am done with is set up for a top end......
As for the 2spd..I have a spare alloy carrier....I changed out the gears & shafts...
no go..gear teeth don't even come close to meshing...So Have to use the Fg carrier
Maybe the Fg engine mount will work for the correct alingment....Very last resort is a
Fg chassie pan..Or sell the 2 spd...I am begining to think the holes for mounting are very different with the firehammer....Some parts do interchange for the firehammer.....................
I will keep ya posted to what's going on...Slawhammer
