I got out for some high speed runs...We did it up right.....
1st good pass was 37.3 mph...2nd good pass was 38.3 mph.....
and the last pass well I don'r know...,out of control...hit a good pot hole....
right front wheel flew about 10 feet in the air...slid on it's back in asphalt....some nasty
scars the body...bent the right front shock shaft ,,broke the shock cap off..
broke 2 side body pegs......ot A & B mounts torn...And that was all running stock gears....I have not even
installed the 2 spd yet....I need a longer place to run for high speed tests....
And I think CSP said don't go home less ya break some thing...
Hey I had a good time ..that car moves....So Now I need parts...
It's not the engine now..that runs awsome......Slawhammer
PS sorry no camera man today

Down But Not Out

Well boys & girls...The old slaw is down... But not out...Yeah a slight miss hap...
Did more damage than meets the eye...Also broke the shaft that holds the shock.....
Jamb adisk brake......Hmmmmmmmm..yeah I gave it the close eye.........
found I had all but the shock pin that goes in the A & B bulk heads................
I checked and doubled checked....nothing...Now I knew that was not really going to hold me up for a week for parts......So I sat back and pondered a bit.....Ding ding lite bulb idea......I measured the broken shaft...went out to my small camper...dug in that rat box of things......vola I found a big hair pin..I measured it up..yes..it will work....
out came the dermal..zing cut that big pin to length......finished the repairs......
we are ready to go....So I will be ready too run again in the morning.......
enclosed pictures.....All Replies Welcome.....Slawhammer
PS 38.3 mph not bad for all stock gears:clap:

Resourceful, that's your middle name. Don't you love it when you find something that will work? Looks like you had some serious fun!

Yup..it is not always the case of just buying parts....Some times ya have to think I must
have some thing to fix or repair the damage.........
Oh yeah I was having a super time...I was sure I could hit 40mph..but had to shut down
on the run..or get off the throttle......as the place was not long enough.......
I am thinking with that 2spd I should get about 45mph....possiable hit 50mph..,,
that still does damage at that great speed.....The speed thing really don't matter...
it's fast enough...........I have come to the conclusion that the front tires are too narrow
for any type of control....they need to be the same size as the rear wheels.....
Should be nice here again today..so I am all repaired and ready to go back out again....
...All Replies Welcome...Slawhammer

Hey super..That would take a bit too reset up for those monster tires...
I would have to respace the drive axles...Those wheels & tire are heavy there like 9#
I don't think I will use them again...I ran them for 1 full tank of fuel when I had the
29cc Billet engine with more power.....This smaller could trun those big wheels but not
that effeciant......But thanks for the idea...I may try it say I did it..with a speed run
but I don't think it would be that high..guessing maybe 25 mph....Lot of mass weight to turn.......Slawhammer

Hey pipe...the firehammer tires have broken dots for a chevron wedge....
Mount the rear tire backwards....with the chevron facing the rear...........
there a pretty decent tire....Not real heavy tire....Hope that helps...Slawhammer

What's the easiest way to drive out the shock pin? (where you put the cotter pin) ...I was looking at the Mut the other day and I couldn't see what was holding the pin in place... Is it pressed in?

Thanks..

Hey trip..lower or upper? If upper you have to take the shock tower apart..4 screws on the top...If bottom in the lower control arm..it is allen head...like the limit screw on the rear upper control arm...For the from it should be 2.5mm 0r 2mm allen wrench...Slawhammer

I was talking about the upper... OK so the pin is sandwiched between the towers? I was thinking maybe it was just part of the tower casted in by the factory.. I understand what you are talking about now.

Thanks..

Yup...you got it..that way the pin will not slide out....Kind of hokie set up but works..
do you see the 4 screws?as you look stright down? just take those out..the tower plates should be loose the...Oh yeah the triangle plate that goes to the servo tray as well..
it attach to the shock tower..on the one closest to the servo tray..slawhammer
PS Look at post 925 you will see a new shock pin I made...

you should be able to hit 40 mph no worries a clone baja 5b with a clone pipe pulls 38/40mph

ive had a baja 5b hit 50 mph with fixed gears

there is guys in australia hitting 63 mph 102 kmh with moded hpi bajas

i could see and fg with gearing changes and a 2 speed doing some nice top speed runs

those bottom shock pins make good replacements for the 2 speed. the 2 speed I got had one of the raised areas the gear mounts on drilled out to accept them. just green loktite it in and dremmel the threaded part off and it's the perfect length. punch it out to replace when worn

Thanks guys....Yeah I just don't have enough room to make a long pass before shutting down...for runout...Hey pipe mooman turned me on to the 2spd mod for the pin....
I am going to try some thing different today with tires.......
For the rear my firehammer orig tires...For the front..Hostile AT'S...I need more control
I can roll it over too easy with the narrow tires......
As for high speed..I still have to fine tune the engine..It is coming around....
40 mph should be easy to hit with the stock gearing.....Slawhammer

I have no jobs booked for today so am going to fire up the new mt. This truck is so light compared to my redcat. I can't wait to try it on the track. the long chassis should jump really well compared to the buggies I have had

it's scary getting something this big going so fast. my semi screams but it is hard to find the room to open it up. lucky I have a box of gears so I just geared down to use the engine revs. seeing the front wheels lift on the semi is so cool, and just a 23cc... dreading buying another set of tires though. costs as much as the mt I just bought haha

Well the joys of having many RC'S to play with..it all cost too keep them running....
It is not cost effecive for this old man....I have only 1 Gasoline Rc Unit and that cost me
plenty to keep going.....Look at the top ends I just went thru.....If time comes for another RC Unit then..I will replace the firehammer......All Ireally need myself is 1....
.......Slawhammer.......

Well I did get out for 10 minutes here in between the rain..to check the different tire combo....seems to be better....I will know more I get to run this longer....and readjust the steering linkage.........Still working on fine tuning the carb......Slawhammer
