I cut the yellow springs down tonight and installed on the front. much much better. I can actually drive it now. I think 8 of these shocks would be ok. Next I am looking at the lst shocks. they are a bit long but I think I can cut the shock shafts shorter and retap them. friend has a set I think I'll grab and experiment a bit. I could just break down and buy some fg or similar, but where's the fun in that? lol

booked a 19 ft boat in to detail for monday. I've done more boats this month than all of last year. got another painting contract too. I am working all weekend so am for sure taking next weekend off to run. on road one day, off road the other. my pipe isn't here yet so I am in no hurry.
 
You will get the shocks figured out ....just the right stuff to use.....
I would like to see duel springs.....1 inside the other too make stiffer....Slawhammer
 
OK. I did BTB's silicone mod to my rear dif. I put vaseline on the dif sleeve, but used wax paper on the sides and that worked good, no sticking. In the first pic you can see I did the back first as I had the motor to rear bulkhead home made brace on. I shaped the aluminum on an anvil. it has 2 twists. I'll trim it up next. I took the motor mount screws off the bottom to do the inside dif area and the brace holds the motor firm with truck on it's side. looks promising.

Shocks should work out good. I have to dremmel a small part of the front upper arm as the resevoir touches the arm on full compression. not much but enough it bothers me. I have to refill all the shocks with silicone oil anyway. this was just fitting for ride height

and tracking says my box of goodies from LSA are out for delivery. timing is great. it's raining for the next 2 days so guess what I will be doing :D ... my air filter and parts to complete project 3 (yes I have another 5th scale sitting here. it'll get it's own thread). he ordered the parts it needed and I ordered filter and filter oil and we split shipping. getting lazy. I don't leave the house unless it's to go play or go make money lol

Hey pipe..Looks good I like the side brace you made...little hard for me as I just have few common hand tools..just the basic stuff..allen keys screw drives.......
The silacone works well...around the diff....Slawhammer
 
I know the front is still dirty. it's all coming out when the carbon servo tray arrives. putting new servos in too....

there's a guy here makes custom rims for full size autos, and has been making rc rims. he made a baja chassis for the guy I got the car from above. super thick and cheaper than stock. I am thinking I will send him the mt chassis to make me a thick one. I can tap all the holes that need myself. really I can drill it all aside from the motor mount screw indents. my fg doesn't have slots. one place for those screws to go so no sliding. no changing layshaft gearing either, but I like that idea.
 
The slots make it a female dog for the engine...as the engine keeps sliding forward...with the firehammer chassie pan....But that flex of the square pan is too much....
Maybe the firehammer buggy taper pan there is little flex there..or no flex....
I like the Fg Chassie taper pan for the point of the engine mount holes and no slots....

Young fella wants to buy project 3 and came over to wrench last night. He's learning so I didn't do a lot to mine. I did dye a set of firehammer buggy rims and glued up the tires.... I hate gluing tires with a passion. I also took the brake off the layshaft for project 3 as it was missing the brake. when I install the rear disc brakes on the semi, I'll snag the layshaft brake off that for the mt. that's today's schedule. then tonight I put the front brake kit and alloy knuckles on the mt... and I still have to refill all the mt shocks

almost overwhelmed with 3 projects to work on. so many goodies arrived at once I can't seem to get past looking at all the bags of parts and bling hehe
 
spent the whole day wrenching yesterday, putting on new parts, swapping things around etc. I have to go paint a patio deck today, so a short day, then I'll come back and borrow a camera for some pics.

all I have left to do is install my pipe when it shows up, wire in my kill switch, change the motor side plate (so I can use the 97 brake setup, which might mean changing layshafts as the setscrews are stripped on the mt's brake cam and layshaft gear) then put my pinion and spur back on.

I got 2 front disc brake kits instead of one rear brake so it took a lot of pondering to figure how to get it to fit on the semi. I cleaned up at 3 am and went to bed.
 
Man, what another long night. sure learn stuff when you rip things totally apart. the clutch housing on this motor is installed wrong, but stripped bolts yet again wouldn't make taking it off easy. it was fouling the motor mount and the layshaft was on an angle. had an extra plastic motor mount so I dremmeled some clearance off the mount. I actually have the truck ripped apart again. new servo tray is in and I cut the battery part off the stock one to mount on the chassis and mounted the rx box on top of that.

the motor mount and motor side plate are now fg and have the large layshaft brake disc and aluminum bits. once the camera charges up I can get some daylight pics (her camera doesn't take night flash that well and I am too lazy/busy to edit photos. buggy tires look good

Hey pipe....you will have to have a small bracket welded to the exhaust pipe and mount to
the front shock tower..raised up about 5mm for heat....Tires look good.....
Yup striped screws..you always find some one's problems when buying used stuff...
Or more like they do not understand what there doing..inexperence....

with the pipe bolted in and motor mounted, the body mounts were too low. U have made my own body mounts (old rollcage parts turned down in the drill and the battery strap mounts from the carbon servo tray from csp).

the back I will have to make an extension. also had to remove the rollbar parts from the front to center as the one side fouled on the pipe. had the garage door open but I get lots of people stopping by so am hiding in the man cave right now lol. ate dinner, now time to rethink the brace I was making for the pipe. no time for welding, we are running tomorrow hehe. I'll get something fabbed later. I am going to use the 2 mounting locations for the roll bar supports and make a bracket off of that to bolt to

still have a little binding in the layshaft too so motor is coming back out

rear mounts were easy. a chunk of aluminum tube and add another body post. the tube was part of an on road roll bar that got banged up. pipe cutter mod hehe.

this pipe sits higher than I expected. I wish I could just bend it down some.

the body posts....So your truck shell would fit.....I Like the looks of the wheels & pin

well I was just about done. put in my new hitec digi. it squiggled one way and stopped. dead. so had to put my pos gws servo back in. sending this servo back... I had to file the carbon servo tray opening a bit to fit the gws servo in.

I made all the mounts and crap (I used the old rollbar, rear body mount to the tower). I'll take some pics in the morning. I am about to crash out now. I pulled this thing apart so many times today. had to line things up better and the drivetrain works better now... and my lipo puffed. cheap lipos. oh well. it'll have to wait now

I did a trailer park boys marathon the other day wrenching, all the seasons, movies and specials, then yesterday was 3 spiderman movies. friends came by and were giving me the gears about how many times I built and ripped this thing apart. my hands are tired

supposed to be at the track in 1.5 hrs but I'll probably be late today

I am changing the radio box setup again too. it got in the way of the throttle wire. I am going to cut a strip of carbon to mount the radio box on. still drinking coffee though to wake up (ya it's late, but I was up until after 4 this morning)
