As tight of a tolerance as that pin is, it'd be tough for sand to get in there. But as we learned from Jurassic Park, anything is possible.Grit will go into the joint and with the grease = grinding paste??

i use gt85 on em?
I put a light smear of grease on any pins or rotating parts. Sometimes I use a light oil instead, always have. I fix machines for a living and its not fun removing stuck dowels or snapped bolts due to corrosion or seizure. Planned regular maintenance will reduce it turning into a grinding paste.
