i got another order from hobby king some lipo charging/store sacks Ive been trying to get for a while now and a 12v futaba and jr/spektrum charging jack I'm going to mod the futaba on on a tamyia plug for my charger (future project) and make up a spektrum charging jack for my old Man dx6 for his helie and see if i can mod the 12v cigarette light plug to put out 12v 5 amp for another project Ive got going for my old man

there are some leads Ive made up or modified to suit my usage, Ive also made a few doubles for my old man, not pictured

if any one who buys the Jr/spektrum, futaba 12v cigarette lighter charger from hobby king be careful as the charging jacks put out the same voltage you put into the cigarette lighter plug i tested mine on a 15v power supply and both the Jr/spektrum and futaba charging jacks put out 15v, lucky i only want the ends off it

a video of my merv running pro line dirt hawgs with proline titus bead loc rims with 16/55 gearing with center diff with 50 000wt silicone oil in all 3 diffs using 1 x 3s 11.1v 20c 1800 mah zippy lipo battery, using a glitch hs-82mg servo as they don't like the traxxas digital tq 2.4ghz high out put radios, out side temp around 18 degree Celsius = 64 degrees Fahrenheit, so i was able to run a full 3s battery pack with put hitting thermal shut down, but i think i was on the Maxim rpm of the motor and esc

im just about to give up running 3s lipos as its to much power and you have to gear so low to avoid thermal shut down you most likly better on 2s

i brought this from hobby king it was like $1.99 usd so it did hurt the wallet, one thing i found that was strange is that when i tested it on a 15v power supply both the Jr/spektrum and futaba charging jacks put out the same amount as was put into the cigarette lighter plug, Ive never put more then 1 amp through a radio charging jack of mine when i was in a rush, and im not sure ive 12v + is right as im sure my chargers don't put that much out.

luckly this is what i wanted it for so it didn't matter, i want to make myself a futaba charging jack for later on down the track make my old man a spektrum charging jack and a 12v cigarette plug for his charger since both his wagons have them in the back, any way got some enjoyment out of doint it and only cost me a couple of bucks.

here is the original hs-82mg i worded fromw tower hobbies with the hitec 3/4 alloy horn, i know the traxxas radio is digital but I'm hopping my other servo is just faulty and like digital spektrum radios you still can run analog serov,s

well i can charge any thing any time now lols

Traxxas suggest the link system will not work with analog servos at all, they even go as far as saying that you will burn them up if used !

bugger

well yesterday i actually remembered to take my radio so i took my Merv out running pro line dirt hawgs with pro line Titus bead loc rims with 23/55 gearing with center diff with 50 000 wt silicone oil in all 3 diffs using 1 x 2s 7.4v 20c 2200 mah zippy lipo battery, we only ran for for about 8 Min's till a rear wheel nut fell off them temps at the end of the video are OK but if i was to run it for the full 20 Min's or so i get out of those batteries i might on been a bit on the hot side so 21/55 gear might be the go, i do have a Robinson racing pinion but after a few battery packs on loose dirt it looks hammered not as good as stock traxxas pinions.

as for the hitec 3/4 alloy servo horn the screw for the stock arm servo are is 2.5mm 0.5 thread i think i when all over town trying to find 2.5mm nuts or lock nuts and a 2.5m 0.5mm tap with no joy at all.

Ive got an idea so i can those huge paddles.

the stock Merv's roll out with 23/50 gearing is .93:1

the stock Merv's roll out with 28/50 gearing is 1.13:1

the stock Merv's roll out with 28/50 gearing with the transmition gears flipped is 0.33:1

so i should be able to gear up a tap and run the huge paddles on my little truck

the post man was kind today and dropped off my new hs-5085mg digital servo, plus while on the hunt for a 2.5 0.5mm tap and die set and some 2.5mm lock nuts (I'm possible to find) i picked up some venom pinions, Ive never been a fan of any thing venom, but he said bring them back if I'm unhappy or i destroy them and ill get my money back i also brought some more body clips with the straps as I'm always loosing them, i also brought some drill bits for the hitec alloy horn for my new servo, and my 4mm bullet connects from ebay turned up, i like using these to make charge leads not a fan of 4mm banana,s

well i thought ill try and to a post on how to fit a hs-5085mg digital servo to a mer since its not a direct drop in so to speak and the servo horn needed to be modded a tap to work.

i used a 3/32 or 2.38mm drill bit to drill out the hole i wanted and i could make my own thread but i could tell it would hold for long, so since i have a full servo saver as Ive already broken one i cut down an old servo horn and used the end as a lock nut.

100_4845.webp

now due to the hs-5085mg wiring (including the hs-82mg & hs-85MG) i pulled the back of the servo off to make some room to get the servo and wiring thought as above

100_4846.webp

it works well no binding, now i have to figer out how to adjust my radio,s epa,s and set the sub trim.

Ive been to busy and a bit crook to do much with the Merv since i installed the servo, so no updates for a while, i still wouldn't mind playing with the stock 2.4ghz radio some more, but the other day i found 5 Min's to add some body clip straps the front one will be ripped straight off the first flip lolls

100_4856.webp

well its been a while since ive updated the thread ive been really busy, i could not find any 2.5mm lock nuts locally, or in Perth or online in Australia, so i brought some from ebay.com and had them sent from the USA cheap as for 8.

i took the merv out for a quick drive at the local park about a month ago to test out the 21/55 gearing with parallel lipo,s to see how i went with temps, motor 75 c esc 50 c with alot of hard braking and full throttle take offs it was a warmish day, but the weather its getting alot colder thanks to winter.

here is a quick video from the that day its the second video so the batteries are only half charged the first vid was good popping wheelies and so on but half way through one of the grub screws on the right front drive shaft came out, it still was driving alright with 50 000 wt silicone oil lolls but slowed down a bit.

here is another quick video from last week down the local river,s car park running 21/55 gearing with parallel lipo,s major under steer under full power but a load of fun

both video,s i was running pro line dirt hawgs with proline titus bead loc rims, ive flipped my spare gear box gears to run the massive paddles and i have some more gears to use with it but i have not got around to try it out yet as ive been busy, i had time the other day but i rained none stop.
