i finaly took the merv out for a squirt, i ran almost 2 x 3s lipos throught it with out thermal shut down, it was cool this arvo around 74 degree's Fahrenheit so that would of helped it run cooler as normaly iits been pritty dam hot when ive been running it.

i ended up stopping just befor the second battery was finshed cause some kids where running a muck down the park, so i didnt try any 2s lipos on the 19t pinion, but 3s is still pritty quick, i think i might be hitting the rev limet on 3s with the 19t pinion, not sure, it could of just been me but it seamed like it after holding full throttle for around 50 meters.

i forgot the temp gun again, but i was only around the corner, so i checked the temp when i got home aprox 5 or 6 mins after i turned it off, it was 166.28 degree's Fahrenheit, by memory traxxas say 200 degrees Fahrenheit tops for the motor, i personal think ive had it hotter then that befor, but i keep going and don't worry unless the esc goes into thermal shut down, but my guess is the motor would off been not far 176 degree Fahrenheit as soon as i stopped running it.

some more stuff turned up from hobby king, i brought some hex screw drivers to try out as i needed a long one to work on the merv they where $1.59 usd each so no lose if they are no good and i got some more connectors to make up some more charge leads for me and my old man and i want to have a play with the xt60 connectors as i might swap every thing over to them, also a series connector from hobby king i was going to have a quick run of the merv in nimh mode on 4s lipo, but since it runs fairly hot in 3s im not sure if i will push my luck just yet, but i will shorten the series y harness up as its way to long.

also i got some toe links and some suspention push rods, off ebay.com cheap, you can see them in the bottom left of the pic as my susspention push rods have a bit of play in them, but im not to worried just yet and im not in a rush to swap them out just yet.

i took the merv out to my old mans place yesterday, he was away so we couldnt run together, but i took my merv for a blast any way, after the first 3s lipo with the 19t pinion and stock spur gear the out side temp was 77 degree Fahrenheit motor was 203 degree Fahrenheit and the heat sink on the esc was 167 degree Fahrenheit but the thermal shut down didnt kick in, so i know ive had it alot hotter, my wife took a video trying out a new camera its a pitta but takes better footage, you can hear what i was talking about earlyer i ive hit maxium rpm with 19/50 gearing on 3s lipo,s

the traxxas manual says Stop running your model and allow it to cool if the speed
control’s thermal overload protection activates or if the
motor temperature exceeds 200° F (93 degree Celsius)

ive been waiting for these goodies to turn up for a while my dirt hawgs on titus beadloc rims

unfortunaly after 7 mins of running on 1 x 2s 7.4v 2200 mah zippy lipo the mervs esc whent into thermal shut down, like ive said befor i think a 16t pinion for the paddles and mabe 55t spur gear might help as the paddles offer awsome grip will pop wheelies on demand even with the center diff on soft sand and they are taller the the dirt hawgs, so more load on the motor but it was fun whille it lasted, i have a 16t pinion ill see if it will fit later.

here is a quick video rc4wd sand storm paddles on the proline titus beadloc rims, nothing special it was hard to get a good run due to the the 4wd have dug up the sand and left tire ruts every where, but it was still fun to have a squirt.

i ended up changine back to stock tires and run another 3 x 7.4v 2200 mah lipo,s and i ive killed my steering servo not bad after running 31 stock nimh batteries and 27 x 2s lipo,s 8 x 3s lipo lolls

well my traxxas 2080 steering servo it dead, i replaced the gear set just incase but the old on was ok, i pulled it apart every thing looks ok but it gets warm, ive put it in the spare box bin and most likly will give it to my old man for spare gears for his traxxas 2080 servo incase he bust some gears.

i got a good run out of it around 66 battery packs and a heap of crashes and cart wheels and one would expect the extra weight and size of the tyres would kill it sooner, i have orded a hitec hs-82mg as i belive they are better then the hs-85mg and have all metal gears i also orded a hitec 3/4 alloy servo horn to suit, as its a know combo to fit the merv i just hope it works with the traxxas 2.4ghz high out radios as im lead to belive they are digital ?

cause i was a tight arse i ordered them from tower hobbies and with international shipping it came in around $36 aud delivered i save around $2o + bucks from buyin glocal i just have to wait two weeks for them to be delivered lolls.

later today ill post up a video with the mervo on its back running 19/50 gearing and a 11.1v 3s 1800 mah zippy lipo and you can here what ive talked about ive hit the maxium rpm that the esc and motor can handle, so my quest to keep gearing down to lower the motor and esc heat to advoid thermal shut down, has come to an end as its still running hot and i cant go any lower with the gear on stock tyres.

ive also orded a new chassis and some other spares as my battery doors are sparting to pop off and im using large thick lacky bands to keep the doors shut, soon i will do a strip down give it a bit of a clean since my aircompressor has died and see what else needs work.

after running in dirt a few times the stock servo saver stocks working and the sand and dirt chews it up so even if you pull it down and clean it out its still very tight, for this reason and the larger tyres i will be going down the twin steering servo road the sare the load over tseo servo,s and since the chassis, the reciver, radio box and radio is also set up set up for it, but ill have to wait for more funds for now.

so true i knew i needed to drop to a 16t pinion for the paddles but i was just to keen to have a go with them, but i tell you it was ripping along with the paddles till it over heated lolls

the hinge part of the battery doors was starting to split and they kept popping open, i was using lacky bands to keep them shut, i was going to buy some replacement doors, but the seller on ebay canceled the transaction saying then ran out of stock so for a few extra bucks i brought a complete chassis from a 2.4ghz vxl Merv and ill swap every thing over and give the Merv a good strip down and a clean and see what needs work and mabe clean the diff,s, also last time me and my old man ran his Merv he crashed it and broke the front body/bumper mount so i ordered a set from the same seller for him

a complete chassis and radio box with screw, battery doors and vents for under $20 bucks the first hpi Baja 5b chassis cost me over $200 bucks lolls
