Pull start setup has been ordered! Now we wait. I ordered the "super easy start" from rovan. I don't think it's a clone of anything so I'm good. Hopefully it won't be too too hard on my arm, shouldn't be! After all I got all the pulling experience under my belt ?????

I had a rovan easy start on my original 36cc rovan engine... it worked well but I broke 5 of the pull starts themselves.. the plastic failed on all of em... either the plastic the center screw screwed into broke or twice the actual outer housing broke..

Maybe I just didn’t know what I was doing while using them..idk.. I was fairly new to the hobby after taking a 10yr break.. switched back to regular pull starts and haven’t broken one since.. although I am expecting my rope to break any time now at this point lol

I never had one that failed ,if they did ,it was because they wore out ,that is on equipment though ,however ,
one hasn't failed on my Baja ,but a month ago when I pulled the baja out to try to start it ,but it didn't break ,
the hook in the spring just popped out!
I don't even have issues with my nitro engine pull starts ,believe it or not!....:ROFLMAO:

Estimated delivery is Saturday!!!! Here's what I'm up to tonight (other than pulling), I attached the throttle linkage (which needed modifying) which requires attaching the brakes and top plate, IMG_20190822_003058.webp it is kinda bunk but it will do. I made and fitted my exhuast brackets with custom little rubber thingys to absorb vibrations,
IMG_20190822_003114.webp and lastly, I replaced the exhuast gasket. The gasket wasn't that bad (don't have any pics becuase I lost the gasket ?), it was leaking tho, so I replaced it. It wasn't torn or anything, I think it's just that the exhuast has been tightened and loosened with the gasket in there multiple times, like on the road trip to this house, so I think it got crushed a little and is leaking. It it still proceeds to leak, well, I don't know but let's keep our fingers crossed ?
She's a dirty b!tch but I love er' ??

How do you manage to destroy a pull start? I slowly do a few light pulls to check if compression is ok and to get a little juice into the engine and then I do a quick hard pull and the engine starts. This goes for both of my CY (I think) engines. What happens inbetween those two steps that destroy the poor thing?

Z, your baja has become a beast. Was the engine build worth it?

Thx. I have not driven it yet but I will say that the build has taught me so many things and the felling you get when you start it for the first time is amazing!!!! If your talking money, well then no, 2k for a custom build when you could buy a Alx for 2k and get it very quickly. Money isn't everything tho. So in terms of learning and experience. Yes, in terms of money, probably not. In terms of power, unknown but my goal is 22hp (alx is 19).

Well tbh... all but 2 where due to my ignorance and not knowing how to start these engines correctly.. howsome ever... 2 of them just snapped on literally the second pull..

the part where the center screw goes in to hold it together just snapped off.. looked like the hole was off center which made a thin area which caused it to fail...

Saw a vid or may have been a post.......
Anyway middle screw faild? guy drilled right through the starter body and instead of the screw he replaced with nut bolt washer to hold all the workings together??

can someone post the vid?? want to see. i couldnt find it  but i will say i never broke a pull start on my old engine! i always primed (cant do that with this motor so put 91 in plug hole), then slowly pulled 3 times, then give it a good yank and it would start normally.

don't remember where I saw it? my zen starter died from the same thing screw pull out........maybe I'll do how to fix vid??

I have done this mod in the past. It's as simple as it sounds, only thing I will add is you have to use a nyloc nut

Some of those screws that hold the starter pully ,are actually a oblong shape so they don't vibrate out too easy!

so i take the existing screw out, drill all the way through the housing (so a hole can be seen from the outside) and then use a lonng screw that goes from the catch thing on the flywheel side of the PS to the out side of the housing and then add a nyloc nut right?

That sounds the business Zed??
