I'll add to this, bearing lubrication also depends on application and design of the bearing. Some bigger bearings do better in oil baths then grease. Again this is highly application dependent.

So would doing a hybrid be worth it for me, only having a small bore? I'm seriously considering a hybrid with rcmax's new billet hybrid chassis (not the outlaw kid, they now sell just a chassis) . Just an idea ?

I think it would be more expensive than a losi 5t and still no 4wd??‍♂️

I think you need to sell your baja first and see what kind of money you get. Then decide your realistic budget and what it's going to allow you to do.

Rcmax build will be thousands, a DIY hybrid you could do relatively cheap. A good built hybrid can be had for around $1250 already done.

+1 ?? sell first

Man you’re still young and have loads of rc ahead of you. I think you should stick with the Baja and get it running well. You’ll be equally happy with either the Baja or losi as long as they are running correctly. Figure out what’s wrong but more importantly stop rushing and hacking poop together. If you keep putting self tapping screws in your wheels the losi will be unreliable also

Z, just do you. I think there's a ton of potential in your current 5b, but ultimately you need to enjoy yourself first and foremost.

Where I will break with your current mindset is this strange need to go full on big bore once again. Why do you need to continue operating this way?

Take a second to calibrate and think of why you are playing in the large scale world to begin with. Is it to enjoy yourself, or is it to spend a ridiculous amount of money on something that will ultimately frustrate you once again?

You will eventually have the resources to get that monster big bore build you are lusting after. But do you need it now?

Once you got your OBR motor, you started having a good time. Sure, poop broke, but at least you were running it. RC is all about chasing down broken poop, and large scale is just the more expensive version. Getting involved with another, even more expensive build type will only work to frustrate your efforts of having a good time.

I won't judge you whichever path you choose, because it's really all about what will make you enjoy your chosen hobby. But I will challenge you to think about what it is in this hobby that brings you that level of enjoyment. Is it wrenching? Trying to control a 2wd? Or simply fixing the broken bits and finding out if your hack will actually work?

Will a hybrid add to to that experience? Can you afford to run it at the same pace you are running now? Will the added downtime be worth it if you can't afford to fix even the "small" things? And finally; is riding a wheelie truly worth all this heart ache? Seems to me that's really the only reason to get a big bore for a 5th scale in this weight class.

If it's just driving your car without incident, then you could be happy with a Losi or a later model HPI, or *gasp* upgrade your current 5b to modern standards, which is sooo much cheaper than the other options...

If you keep chasing the (bigger, better, more); you may find yourself less happy, and a whole lot less affluent.

Just my own 2 cents on this thread.

Im gonna agree with this. A big bore just isn't feesable with your current budget. Stick with what you can keep running and enjoy. I mean I work full time and collect a military pension and big bores aren't in my budget. We can't all be John Parks ?

No not a crazy build, will be a cheap hybird build, off the new rcmax chassis. Obviously I will sell first ?
If he's gonna do a DIY hybrid he needs his baja. So he will have to purchase the losi with no baja $$
Naw I'd buy the rest of the hybrid in parts, not buy a Losi, keep my Baja, make a hybrid, then sell off extra parts.

Well said, I'm not chasing a bigbore by the way. I want to do it because the Baja 2wd and the Losi handling seems appealing to me. Id keep my obr in it ?

I never said anything about a bigbore ? I will probably be keeping the obr.
Z you need to get a job. It’s hard to build a rig off birthday money
Um mate , probably the only job u can get at my age is selling drugs at school which, ?

Huh? Cheap and rcmax don't go in the same sentence. Plus your better off keeping it light if your staying with the OBR.
Well , obviously none of you have seen what I'm talking about ?‍♂️ what im thinking about if using this new hybrid chassis from RCMAX
https://www.rcmax.co.uk/product-page/rcmax-billet-losi-baja-hybrid-chassis
, take my Baja rear end and obr motor and throw it on here, and then complete the rest of it with Losi plastics and such (so it's semi cheap,) . Or if that chassis isn't feasible at that time, just do a normal diy hybrid (prefer to get the pre drilled rcmax , nice chassis but if not a normal diy hybrid would do).
not talking about an outlaw, that's waaaaaaay too expensive for me.
