Something I remember when watching the install videos for the spiral diaphragms on the 990 CARBS. The guy mentioned that the carbs tend to run leaner than the regular diaphragm . I wonder if that was part of the issue? Think I'll have to keep an eye out for that .
Good to know but never installed the spiral diaphragm on the 990. Put it on my 1107 but not the 990. The final 990 setting on mine was 1-1/8 LSN and 1-3/8 HSN.

You and me both bruh. All good tho. Still don't know 100% what killed her. Filter was new right before that carnage. I think either the piston was damaged by the lean conditions the old fuel filter gave it or the piston was damaged from something else. Either way got some new stuff on the way to get her going again.?? I just watched the gopro footage of this run and I could hear some bogging from idle to full throttle.
 
The seals are so cheap id replace them. Put a little grease on the I side if the lip before you slide the case halves together.
I'm going to go along with the damage was mostly done from your prior issue.
When I did my spiral diaphram I had to fatten both jets up from the stock settings, but idk if it was from the diaphragm, it's normal to have to fatten them up after a port job.
My rule of thumb is to add the oil at the pump before filling my cans up. I go through a lot of two stroke gas (especially this time of the year cutting wood) this has been my fail safe and worked well for me. I have off this week to burn up vacation time, I've gone through close to 2.5 gal so far this week. The wood shed will soon be at max capacity ?
