Just got my Baja 5b, how can i make this thing quieter?

And i sorta gave up on making it quieter for now.
The new exhaust i have has helped,
but it seems to have killed a bunch of my midrange.
From what i have learned, i need to get that expansion chamber further away, as in i need a longer exhaust and maybe a better shaped/larger expansion chamber.
I have been thinking about reinstalling the original "semi hard penis" looking exhaust, it was ugly but actually pretty good.
The addition of a little Nitromethane has helped, but i still mostly only have top end.

But it is a bit quieter now, or maybe i have gotten a little more deaf. :ROFLMAO:

I'll probably revisit the idea later down the road, trying to not spend too much $$ right now until i finish the old truck at least.

I went back to the original exhaust, and then took some 1/2in copper pipe and made a little something.

Midrange power is back, and it's amazing with the nitromethane now.
Still a bit loud but it's not too bad.

Man go to a crappy exhaust for a while, and then back again.
:ROFLMAO:

Now i have to wonder, how much better does it get?!

You can tell the quality by the hose clamp, not just the 90 degree angles. :ROFLMAO:

I actually cut a little V notch in the copper in order for that hose clamp to have something to "crush".

I expected it to run like total garbage, but i suspect the nitromethane is patching a slight hole in the design. :poop:

How much does a gallon of nitromethane cost? I think if you decide to run pump gas for a bit you could afford a real pipe🤣🤣

There IS a way to make it quieter and keep your power. You need bolt on silencers. Also IDK if it will work for 2 stroke but take a screw and put it in the tip of the exhaust as if you are splitting the air at the end. I know with harley it makes em quieter.

It’s not that much... like $20 a gallon I think give or take a few bucks

Wrong
Pure nitro is 80 bucks a gallon if you can find it.
And you're not running anything on pure nitromethane.

It's like saying I'm going to use pure oxygen, or straight nitrous oxide.

Read prior posts, i covered this in great detail. ;)

Been a while, I'm still enjoying my Baja.
The copper little exhaust eventually started falling apart.
the soldered joints couldn't take it.
So i ran with a turn down for a little while, that worked good enough.

Then a few weeks ago i managed to land it on it's rear end while jumping some curbs in my cul-de-sac
That rovan exhaust folded like a tin can!

Everything else is fine, but the exhaust took some pretty serious damage.
managed to spring a leak up by the engine, greased up the rear of the car pretty good.

So i decided it's time to get a new exhaust.
I had missed out on that DDM Dominator "muffler" exhaust, I don't see it on their site any longer.

So i settled on the DDM V2 Dominator.
Just arrived today, slowly assembling it.
I also spring for some copper exhaust gaskets, should help conduct heat a little better...
I dunno if that's a good or a bad thing. :)

I can't wait to see what the performance difference between the DDM vs the rovan knock off of the DDM is like.
Already a very noticeable weight difference.
the DDM being built much better.

While i have it apart, i'm debating if i want to pull the rear end or not...
the Diff fluid is probably either empty, or the fluid is worn out... :poop:

Oh and still running the NM mixed into the fuel.
It got hot enough to actually melt the AC rated solder, and the copper got pretty discolored.

Always the worry running that stuff, what kind of damage will it cause.

With the exhaust off, the rear of the piston skirt and rings still look great.
But i do let the engine warm up pretty good before going at it.

Worry would be the heating/overheating of the piston.
Saw it on my chainsaw once, but i run this thing at about 16:1 premix (redline 2 stroke).

With the exhaust off your part way there to getting the diff out. I would do it to make sure you have the fluid you want in there and the gears are greased. Plus allows you to check the bearings are in good order.
