Well, you are the one that assumed that "picking up another" meant throwing out the used one. Maybe you were trying to be a smartass...or you've never heard of putting old parts on the shelf for future rebuilds or parts? I choose the latter.

Yes, the plan is to build a pretty basic cage out of steel rod that protects the motor/etc and looks similar to a SC truck without adding too much weight. Bolted solid to the frame so it can be taken off without too much effort but ties everything together. After the cage is built I'll weld small tabs into the corners of the cage and bolt a composite of some sort into the openings.

As I said earlier I think your prop shaft will go first. It’s at a steep angle and it’s thin, so my guess that will bust first.

Then I think your axles and front top arms will get it depending on how hard you bash, but looking at them you won’t need to bash hard to fcuk them.

The welding on your spur gear holder looks like Ray Charles did it but that doesn’t mean it isn’t strong.

Don’t forget you’re adding a load more weight and power to stuff that wasn’t the strongest in the first place.

do u have the full hd internals in the center box?..this will help loads as one of the stock gears is soft ally..?...very soft....☹

Use rubber orings in the drive cups as a first port of call to limit it slipping about and keep it in the ideal position. Failing that look for an alternative shaft with fixed ends and a UV joint but even that might not work. The angle looks very steep to me from the pictures.
Also do you have any pics with the wheels off showing the hubs and axles?
