Fuel Tank Installation

Ok..The new fuel system is installed..I had to relocate the battery when I did the brakes
I had it mounted on the front brace...I have a different battery to install next week..
I need a couple connectors yet..The new fuel tank bracket lined up where the old firehammere tank holes were..I used stainless steel sleeve on the lines for protection..
Ran the fuel lines under the engine..making sure did not hit the diff gear...
The fuel cap is a little tite ..but is ok..Enclosed pictures..All Replies welcome.....

And here's the report..It started out at 37* outside and got up to 70* Took the firehammer out for a run...It was a real blast..No wheelie's as I set the rear end to be
level with the ground,,Great hook -up both wheels throwing dirt...The front brakes
worked awesome..No leaks with the new fuel system..and the vent in the fuel cap all so
worked fine..I ran 1 tank of fuel with a flawless running..Just all out fun to drive now..
No loose nuts,bolts..Both the mods have done there job with ease..the screen mod and the Chassie mod..No rear end flexing..No rocks..I did run in gravel to check this out...
Engine mounts screws are tight...Even the tranny stud I did for the tranny brace..was still tight..So I am well pleased with the running of the firehammer..So all my work on this has paid off for me..Just time too have some fun now and enjoy ....All Replies welcome...AKA Slawhammer

sounds like movement in the right direction Slaw. is nice to be able to run without major issues.

Timmahh: I know some of waht I have done too my firehammer is old hat to most of you guys that have been around for awhile..I have only in 1/5 scale for just over 3 months..
So all this is a great feat to have done all this and at my age...Thanks for your complement
about my work...All replies welcome..AKA Slawhammer

Nice to see your progress on the hammer!!
Ive been too busy with "Other than RC projects".
I did put this together on the Baja!!
Darksoul cooling head on a water cooled Sikk marine head.

Teamchrome: That looks cool. What is the advantage of the head?
Better cooling effect? I do thank all you guys here in the forum for all you
help with my firehammer..You guys are my backbone to this hobby...Many thanks to you
all once again...All replies welcome..Aka Slawhammer

Bigger Battery

Ok..I don't remember if I talked about a bigger battery or not...I had to cut the ends
out of the battery tray to make the new battery fit..Which is 8.4 volts 4600Mah
I also used a step down 6 volt regulator..to keep things from getting fried..I am usinga
Spectrum DX3 radio system ..That can handle 7 volts ok..But I was looking for more
MAH for longer run time...I just have to make some hold down straps yet and I am ready
to get out and rumble..Enclosed pictures..All Replies welcome..AKA Slawhammer:2guns::2guns:

Oh Yeah..Got out for a run today with the firehammer..Awsome just awsome..is all I can say...is a pleasure not to have any problems...Flawless great time I had....Now I know what you guys have been doing the last couple years..driving the hellout of it...
I can't remember when I have had so much fun...I love this 1/5 scale...pull the starter and let warm up a minute or so and wow your off....my firehammer will throw 3 meter rooster
tails..No wheelies at this point I have set rear end low to the ground...I will try what I have for now with stock dog bones..other wise maybe carlson ball drive..
I would like to thank you all for helping me on my firehammer..Hellya,CSP1971,TeamChrome,BTW..Mad H the list goes on..Many thanks to you all that replied to this thread..You guys and this forum( LSF) are my back bone in 1/5 scale...Thanks again..All replies welcome..AKA Slawhammer

Glad to hear..
I think 1/5 is the way to go.
All the BS of nitro is gone and no wait for a electric battery to charge between runs..
Not to mention the 30 to 45 min run times on a single tank of gas!!

Teamchrome:Good to hear from ya..Yeah that new battery and step down regulator should do the trick pretty well..I have a friend who use's what I just done ..he told me he gets 5 tanks of fuel before the battery is low..and has a spare battery..Guess can run for 4 to 5 hours run time that way...Now what is the deal with that marine cooling head?

Thanks guys for your help on my firehammer..I love this thing...When your Hot your Hot
It was a long rebuild for me but I enjoyed doing the rebuild..Maga bucks into it now..
To Me the rebuild is worth more than any amount of money spent for the parts..
and to the new friends I have met here in the forum..you can not buy that..
I will keep ya posted to my running of the firehammer and more up grades to come..
I will try to do a video..I think my small digital camera will do that..has a movie selection on camera..I just don't know how to post it when done is all....Will need help here....

Ok ..last night I installed rubber boots on the rear axles..They were back ordered..I forgot about them took only 6 weeks...took out this morning for a run things went good...
miss's forgot the camera..so will get back out later...
Now here's next thing..My son wanted to run my firehammer before he went fishing today
said ok..He ran it here by the house..man there was a hell of a ruckus going on the thing was hopping and jumping all over the place..He knew enough to shut it off...
He said I broke it I broke it..I said no big deal let's check this out...
Looks like a dog bone ripped a boot..Dog bones slid in the drive cups..
I took all the boots off..Checking the dog bones..Yes there duratrax firehammerMT 108MM...way to much slop of sliding back and forth...So I put fuel tubing in both cups
put back together..seems much better..I need 120 mm dog bones...Maybe the FG diff housing is shorter..I used duratrax diff gears and diff drive cups...May be the Fg diff gears and the Fg diff drive cups are longer...I guess I will need to get the carson ball drive system with boots..I have all turn buckles adjusted to where they have to be..
I set the limit screw on the upper control arms so the control arms are even with the ground ..too help keep the dog bones level and not on a angle...I need some suggestions
Help..some one should have a answer too this..All replies welcome..AKASlawhammer

Ok..had the firehammer out for 3rd time today...I was running the snot out of it
going in stright line..Bam Engine quite...Thought I blew some thing..Tried to restart ..nothing...Pulled spark plug..that looks good nice sandy brown color...WellI put in a new spark plug..still nothong..ok..thought no spark or gap closed..Then light bulb went off..
disconnect electronic kill switch..see if starts..fired right up..but the clutch was engaged high rpms..Killed it with red button...So now I think the red spring broke...What kind of warrenty on that..1 full tank of fuel then broke...I guess I will ask on that..
I will be taken apart later or in the morning..Got to order some springs from DDM..

My only suggested solution to preventing the dog bones moving around is to move the drive hub outward on the axle, and put a couple shims in between the hub bearings and the drive hub, inside and out. Make sense? This will push the axle inward more by a couple mm's.

I had a problem with mine yesterday as well. The throttle control arm that opens the carb up would cause the engine to rev after every time I let off the brakes. I messed with it for what seemed an eternity. I'll just have to order a new linkage. Of course, Tower and everyone is out.

Busted Spring

And the Answer is!!!! Broken Red Spring...Just going into second tank of fuel..
Ya can't tell not a MFG defect...I know thinks break..But not that quick...
warrenty..AAHHH more like consumer item..customer eat's it part & shipping...
CSP: you mean the arm that hangs from the carb? that your rod connects to?
or the control rod from the throttle to carb?I am sure DDM has them ..
I will be back out soon running..Have to check my rat box..I may have complete clutch
with spring....Best too ya..Thanks for your reply..All replies welcome..AKA Slawhammer

We Can all sing the Willie Nelson song."On the Road Again"..I had a redspring in my rat box
acomplete clutch with spring...I have springs coming from DDM...I had to get a Battery terminal Puller to get my gears off...I modified the arms to get on the spur carrier..
Cuz last time I put it back together I used Blue lock tite on the shaft as well as the grub screws...I removed the brake on the lay shaft as well,,Figure the front disk will work ok..
going to get rear brakes come this winter...Hydro would be nice...But to spendy for the firehammer..800 buxs Wow...My real 4x4 is that much all the way around..Going to get out in the morning if not raining..All replies welcome..AKA Slawhammer

TheGreaser

Ok I got 'THE GREASER" in the mail yesterday..You can get 1 from fast eddie..
I got this to do the bearings,,yes I have hand done bearings before..I had a bigger
unit for real cars & trucks..This will speed up of the bearing maintance...enclosed pictures..the alum bottom you put grease into this...the white chamber goes on next..
in the V place the bearing...the white tip on the blue cover you incert in the bearing crnter ..press down..oushing old grease out and fresh grease in..your done..that simple..
takes about 30 seconds to do..great for the real small bearings...

Going to get out today..frost on the ground..28* out right now being about 9 am here.
I love this firehammer now with no issues for running..All replies welcome.AKASlawhammer
