Well tonight I completed the shocks. (Rob, I changed the fuel line too)

I used the parts I had listed in a post above and then used some nylon spacers so that there would be no rubbing on the bottom of the shock using the Baja shaft end. Thanks to someone from a posting over at RRF.

I now have front Baja shocks on the rear and the Rampage rears on the front. 6mm shafts all around.

Here are some pics:

Here it is so far. I cut the body up so I could lower it as low as possible without all the rubbing. The only area I'm getting any rubbing is the body against the gear case. I won't be running with the case though, so I'll have to trim it out more. Lastly, I have the kill switch, radio, and trim adjustments! :cool2:

When I roll it, the gears seem really super tight and there seems to be a "snag". I'm going to disassemble it all and make certain I didn't put something together wrong.

it's looking good. ya you have to cut around the gear case to slam the body. shoe goo and fibre tape that body around the mount holes right away

can't wait to see it running

I like the looks of those shocks.....Hope they work as good as they look....
I run open gears....no plastic cover to get broken or cause damage to gears over heating up....Those plastic covers are a piss poor design at best.............
Your coming along very nicely.....should be ready to fire up soon.....Slawhammer

The shocks are so damn smooth. I really am impressed. I put 40 wt all the way around. I need some stiffer springs though.

I have to goo that body and get some fibre tape today. I think I've reached the point of not dropping it any further. I've got one more hole to go down in the front and rear, but I don't want to cut the body any more.

Still have to pull apart the gears and figure out where that bind is coming from. Also bought some springs to put in the outdrives to keep the dogbones centered. Have to install those as well. Oh yeah, and the radio hookup.

What about trying to shoe goo some foam earplug pieces into the outdrives and dif cups for the dogbones? you don't lose those when you break an arm etc. or even goo some fuel tube in. I used to race the little rc18's and lost so many of those little springs so we started glueing stuff in (or buying cvd's)

I was wondering about gluing those in place in there somehow. I put them in the front end but figured they would disintegrate quickly. Do they hold up well? I'll shoe goo anything, I like that stuff! :)

Just ordered the Himoto steel gears from Himoto on Friday (Hong Kong I think), came today! Fast! Rampagehopups.com should be getting them pretty quick.

you'll notice all direct buy from redcat the prices are more expensive than Rob and Scott sell for, eg. the MT2 is $1059 direct from redcat but $859 from the dealers, so i'd expect the gear prices from them would be less, should see in a day or so.

edit;

just checked prices are the same....I just ate my hat:clown:

Yucky! The gear bind is normal especially with the plastic gears...if you take them off everything should smooth out. Just check that you have a tiny bit of backlash on the centre diff gears....it comes with 3 shims in the centre diff mounts so it can be adjusted...if you didn't take it apart it should be ok. And check the brake adjustment screws, you want a bit of slop on the brake shoes when the servo is at neutral

Ready to run I think! Fiber taped & Gooped the body all over, added about a pound of weight. Drilled out the arm pin braces, countersunk the chassis and now have those bolted in place! I also bought some 26" 1.25 bicycle tubing. Put that around the shocks. My hands hurt like hell. If anyone ever does it with small of a size, put some oil down in the tube and it'll slide a bit easier over the spring. They look great and don't seem to bind a bit. Oiled up the air filter and installed the Killer Bee kill switch.Cut a small window in the radio tray so I could see the light.

Thanks to everyone with all their good advice and mods that I think will go a long way. The only mod I didn't do was the shock limiters. Didn't much feel like dealing with it.
