Hello All,

I hope I’m posting this in the right section?

Any how the rebuild has started, I’ve dug out the Kraken and started to set up shop in a room downstairs much to the wife’s pleasure.

Parts arriving from DDM made me start plus a load of unfinished tasks. A new TR diff amongst them and DDM gears. The 20T was out of stock so I had to go with the 19T but I’m not bothered because it should have better low down torque which I need because it’s a heavy beast.

To give a bit of history it started life as a HPI 5B SS but I turned it into a 5SC/ T to accommodate the cage, but there must be about 1% of the original HPI parts on it. I had to do few mods to keep the rear bumper and mud flaps. I’ll be modding them further as the width is off because of the extended hubs and it looks funny.

Cool ?

Thanks Z,

The DS was a good bit better than the standard 26cc but it couldn’t cope with the extra weight I think.

I reckon the Scott Finlay has about double the power, well I hope so.

So today I continued with the strip down, started making a list of things to replace and improve.

First on the list is an angled velocity stack as getting the tank out is a b@stard with the standard one. I always think I’m going to break something.

Got the shocks off and decided to call it a day, lots of cleaning to be done.

One is leaking, I reckon I didn’t seat the seal properly. The bolts holding the bottom of the front shocks was bent so I will look at stronger replacements. I’m replacing the rear shafts with Titanium ones and the fronts with strengthened steel from Kraken.

More to follow..........B1ABAE37-E556-4915-AF6D-715A88FE7629.jpeg89CC528E-7949-4410-A6D2-0AF77A9F0040.jpeg

Yeah the stock airfilter is complete trash. Man those shock rezzis are nice! ??

Nice motor it has very similar spec to my OBR 34 (y)(y)

Your right, so I’ve been told by people who have owned both. ?

Yeah those Treshold Rezzies were hard to get hold of a few years ago, I'm not sure if he still makes them, same with my DarkSoul Engine.

What filter setup do you have/ recommend?

Quick update,

I went from this

49587

To this

49588

I decided to strip my buggy while I was at it and I’m going to use some parts from it to create the ultimate truck in my mind.

All orange parts from my truck will either be stripped back to raw or sprayed black.

The truck will be heavy but powerful and the buggy will be fairly light but less powerful.

I’ll post up the specs of each soon.

More to follow. 4958749588

Hi Mark,

Well spotted mate, it certainly did belong to Bass666. Top machine it is too, between the 2 of them there must be only a handful of plastic parts that are HPI everything else is aftermarket and not available anymore.

Anyhow, how are you and have you still got your Baja?

Milo.

Thought it was ? I'm fine thanks mate and yes I still have my Baja, infact I have 4 of them??

I have made some progress, the battery box has the servos, Rx and kill switch fitted. I've used the Fullforce servo braces and steering servo bracket.

Servos are SAVOX 1256 and 0256. The Rx is a Futaba R304 SB, I intend to use telemetry on this truck I have the RPM and Temp sensors with an S-Bus to connect it all. I hope it works as it's been sat in box for over 2 years. Still a fair bit to finish when my battery, connectors and wiring turns up.

sorry but that kinda sounds gayyyyy :ROFLMAO:
That's because you are a mericaaan.
I've also been working on my rear end,

49613

Diff and gearbox has been built, sorry no pics of the build it was too greasy. It has TR Diff and saver kit, DDM Black Magic gears with a 19T gear for the 5T/ 5SC. This should give more torque over all and I can adjust the gearing using the pinion gears. The layshaft is custom Titanium one for the PCSC. The dog bones and cups are Phatdad items.

I've now mounted it to the below;

49614

49615

The rear plate is a modified RC item and it is a work of art and looks and feels as tough as they come.496134961449615

Oh I forgot, those are Hostile Rear hubs with adjustable toe in things. Lucky I found my spares so for now I've set them to 2 degrees. IRP Rod ends, Hostile boots, Hemistorm MAXHEX, RPM arms, Team Chase rear towers, Bonehead RC Carbon thing and Phatdad anti squat thing (again 2 degrees).

I've used reinforced bolts instead of hinge pins, I doubt these will bend for a while. Unlike Z.:ROFLMAO:

Ok some more progress, I’ve installed all Futaba telemetry sensors on the engine, RPM and temperature. Apologies for the terrible pics. 49735

I’ve also soldered in the kill switch wiring and xt30 connectors, 16AWG silicone wire.

49736

I’ve used high temp braiding to around the wire over the heat shrink.
