Use rubber orings in the drive cups as a first port of call to limit it slipping about and keep it in the ideal position. Failing that look for an alternative shaft with fixed ends and a UV joint but even that might not work. The angle looks very steep to me from the pictures.
Also do you have any pics with the wheels off showing the hubs and axles?

do u have the full hd internals in the center box?..this will help loads as one of the stock gears is soft ally..?...very soft....☹
...my savvy flux ate mine☹....?
...u got the bp diffs aswell or not?...
Appears to have a light colored alloy gear towards the front of the transmission.

Those hubs look substantial enough, are the fronts the same?

Those top arms look ok as well it’s fronts that look a bit weak to me. But that is only my opinion I have no experience with the Savage but I do with with RS4s and they where made of cheese. Still loved them though. I can’t believe I got rid of my Escudo Pikes peak.

Not 100% sure but I think the Savage is identical at all 4 corners.

All 4 corners are the same for hubs an arms. The stock ones are ah ok. One of the few that going alloy is advantageous, or rpm, I like the alloy better back in the day, but have a full set of stockers. haven't bent up the alloy to date. The stock hubs were never a weak point in them. No need to replace if the bearings are kept up with. A forward only trans should be used for any "high power" applications. Stock shafts are quite strong. At least in the XL platform and the xl flux. You'll eventually blow the blow proof diffs.
Need a strong steering servo as well. These like to push the front around. I'd give the servo saver a good checking over as well.

Thanks for the input. Have thought about a single speed conversion with the "upgraded" parts. The plan to use the Savage transmission was because it has the brake assembly attached, although not the best brake setup it works. If I use a Baja transmission the brakes will need reworking.

Also, I see a lot of those plastic roll cages in threads. Are they Losi cages or are their multiple manufacturers?

My advice would be run it and see.

This build is so experimental that we can only go off pics and descriptions which ain’t ideal.

Don’t spend money until you find the real weak points not the speculated ones by others and myself.

Keep going and good luck again.

Word of advice though stop being rude and calling people names. If you’ve done that to me, either I’d be banned or you’d be hiding under the bed. No need for that poop in my opinion. It’s ok it’s only advice though so you can take it or leave it.

This is a hobby forum at the end of the day hobbies are meant to be fun.

A lot of people here will help you and are interested in what you are doing. It’s very easy to take typed words the wrong way when you can’t see the facial expressions and body language. Please bare that in mind and be kind.

Cheers,

Milo.

No problems. I appreciate all the sound advice. Seems pretty typical Newb treatment on 9/10 forums. So I posted in the wrong sub-forum and it caught flack and I gave it back. My bad, Im into building full custom automotive and heavy duty truck builds. When I see "build-log" I think of custom truck builds etc. So moving on this seems like a good forum with a lot of good knowledge and folks willing to help.

No mate, it was the wanker comment that set me off and in years gone by......well thing would’ve been different.

I’m really not trying goad you but just give some advice.

You are doing the right thing but maybe being a bit too defensive about it. I believe you are welcomed in this forum, just take it easy and let people get to know you.

I’m flakey at best because of personal reasons but it doesn’t mean you need to be rude. Sean is super experienced and we all benefit from his and other people like him for advice.

There is worse shite going on in this world, we don’t need to turn on ourselves.

You know it. Please keep it up Brokestroke.

Multiple manufacturers, you have Kraken and Team chase which are the best and benchmarks. You also have Rovan and KM shite and you also have 30deg North. Might be OK but I would not buy them.

I blame the clones for the demise of the original and best RWD 5th scale which is HPI Baja.

Funny though that I only have about 5 bits that are original, everything else is aftermarket upgrades.

First off this is a 1/5 forum so the build logs are for large scale ??
