engine Build

Thanks teamchrome & bigger the better.....Ok now where did I leave off on the
engine build...Think top end is next...I cleaned the gasket surface with denatured Alc
applyed a thin coat of #2 permatex sealet to lower case.and also the cylinder..
let tack up get sticky....apply the copper gasket...for this I am using a stock 28mm
crank so the gasket is ,020 copper....apply copper gasket to lower case..now time for the cylinder to go on the piston..
On the intake side of piston you will see a small nub..the piston ring has to be squeezed together there.,,oil up the piston and ring...oil the in side of the cylinder...now squeeze
the piston ring together ..slide the cylinder on stright down slowly..NO twisting or turning the cylinder...Once on the case..put red lock tie on the cylinder head cap screw
there are 4 all together..just snug down each 1 as you go ..but to be slightly loose..
once all 4 cap screws are in place..tighten in a cross pattern...again with a t allen\with the split handle..cuz you can't over tighten with that....Enclosed pictures..more to come

Engine Build Cooling Head

Ok ..pressing on the dark soul Cooling Head...This has to be used with the marine cylinder
for us guys that have cars, buggys, trucks,,to cool the engine...
I had to buy some thermal paste..yikes.. super small tube $7 Bucks..cuz none was supplied
Ok apply the thermal paste in a zig zag pattern around the inside of cooling head...
Next spread the thermal paste evenly smooth....Now sit the Dark Soul cooling head
down on top of the marine cylinder...There are 2 tiny screws that hold the cooling
on the marine cylinder.....Only thing left is..coil.flywheel with woodrif key.fan cover.pull starter,
Clutch case & shoes..What is left will have to be taken off my 29CC Billet head engine..still in the firehammer.......I think you pretty got the idea how to do this....
Fast Eddie has a Video on this Marine head set up..Plus some on a basic engine build..

This was fun doing and had a good time doing it..along with the cylinder mod,,,,
All replies Welcome....More pictures to come Slawhammer

She is pretty huh!!
Not a fan of RED Locktight, just blue.

Hey Bigger.. I ALWAYS refer back to a motor build post when it comes to that mark on the piston..
Im always right , but I need that little reminder to get me to do it with confidence, so your not alone there.

Hey
Teamchrome...I checked with Ted at Dark Soul...You use Blue locltite on the
lower case cap screws..and red lock tite...on the marine cylinder top end....
Let set 24 hours to cure....He said after a while the red locktite will be soften up
anyway......That's what is also recommended in the FastEddie Video...
I just rewatched that again on the dark Soul cooling head & marine cylinder...
.Yup that is a looker..hope it run's well..I am going too be using a wt771 carb
as recommended for the marine cylinder........
Thanks for the reply my friend.................Slawhammer

Rear Spoiler

Ok..The engine build was fun to do..Now today I done another project for the firehammer
I got a second spoiler or wing...Baja 5b wing ....So I wanted to get creative ...
The lettering is done with a sharpie Paint pen....Looks like a magic marker...
But is real paint:cool2:....And some sponser decals...Enclosed pictures...Hah speaking of pictures
I found sealent on my camera :nono::no:from the engine pictures...got that cleaned up..good thing:)
metal camera case.....All Repiles Welcome....Slawhammer:2guns::2guns:

slawhammer this thread gets better and better every time i see it.

damm that engine looks great.

so you must be almost ready to break it in?

are you going to get a video up yeah?

Hey dc...well it is mostly about the firehammer...just as your's is about your Fg & Carson
car....Thanks for a look see..Be a bit on finishing up the marine engine..
Break in? thought you just added mixed fuel and drive the hell out of wot from the get go to seat the ring......Yeah a vid later as well.........Slwahammer

do you think this is the right way to break in our twostroke engines?

lot of misconceptions flying around about this topic.

some say two tanks, some say one tank and gradual build up from there more say none at all.....i suppose look at chainsaws...
hard to know.

what do you do,wot straight away?

Hey Clubin...I am sure you will br the first to hear about this..with a good report...
Yeah my next plans are to build another engine... 27.2CC lighten piston, lightened
fly wheel..Mod work tocylinder and lower case.... of course 4 bolt....and the RN Pipe
for that engine...Cuz that's ldeal set up....or worse sell the RN Pipe....see what and
where I need the money for the firehammer project...Have it about complete as much
as I want to do on this..this has been a 10 month project...with very little driving it...
Thanks for your reply My friend......Slawhammer

dc ....the piston ring won't seat till you get the engine hot...what did you do for a 2 stroke motorcycle? run it hard...I would guess run it abit up & down for anout 1/2 tank of fuel and then wot...up and down a few times...by tank 2 it should be seated pretty good...
I don't know for sure..I have always ran the engines hard from day 1....
that's what was done with airplanes engine's years ago..slightly rich.....
wher's timm man ?He has all the answers....Slawhammer

its hard to know the best way to run them in.

you see a hard life straight from the off could result in a shorter life for the engine or premature seezing...

these engines are differnt from normal strimmers/weed engines with all the porting and high rpm.

but in saying all that who knows the best method.

I drivem all like I stole em rite from the start. My engine's are always apart for cylinder mods this and that. I am going to keep doing what I do, I haven't ever had any problem's. I do run them rich for the first 2 tanks.

dc...don't know about the seze..the ring groove has been cut to prevent that...

Clubin.....Yeah pretty much the way I have for the last 50 years..run to hard ..slightly
rich to start..by 3 tank...fine tune it....
Thank my friend....any more input on this?yeah I know 1000 different answers...
All Replies Welcome...Slawhammer

Teamchrome..all sounds great...

Kwakr..Bolt it right up..just make sure you check you squish so ya don't damage
a piston or seaze...But you should cut at the piston groove.. .0002 thousands of a inch
and now nore then .0002 thousands below the ring groove...This will help prevent
a seazed piston...the top edge of the piston expands so fast when heated up..
Check DDM those kits come in 2 bolt or 4 bolt and depends on what crank you use..
you have to get cooling head..and the topend kit...cooling head also comes both 2 bolt & 4 bolt
..Like I said before Dark Soul claims 4.25 HP...Hope that helps....I do a lot of research on Rc items
lot of reading...checking out lots of stuff......Slawhammer.........

I've been wondering this for a while?? Do you mean .002" or 2 thousandths,(.05 mm) or do you really mean .0002" or 2 tenths? (.005mm) 2 tenths is all but invisible... I have stuff at work I have to hold a .0005" tolerance but it isn't easy.. We do have a machine that can hold a .00002" or two millionths (.000508mm), but I'm not allowed to use it  I crash stuff!

For everyone that has no idea what I am talking about, .004" (.1016mm) is the thickness of a sheet of notebook paper..

Trip..

Trip...good catch there..I am in error.... .002 from the top of piston down past
the ring groove .002....That will help from seazing a piston in the cylinder..
Great to have friends that catch a mistake.....Slawhammer
