First off this is a 1/5 forum so the build logs are for large scale ??

We are very welcoming crew here?? and we will give the best advice possible ?? but don't knock on the door and then slag us off ? coz we can always remind you where the exit is??? ???
Hahaha sounds like my work where most people have desks in the revolving door.

Bad times.

You know it. Please keep it up Brokestroke.

Multiple manufacturers, you have Kraken and Team chase which are the best and benchmarks. You also have Rovan and KM shite and you also have 30deg North. Might be OK but I would not buy them.

I blame the clones for the demise of the original and best RWD 5th scale which is HPI Baja.

Funny though that I only have about 5 bits that are original, everything else is aftermarket upgrades.

The wheelbase is not true to any one production model. It is close to a RC Rampage but the narrow MT body isn't exactly what I want. A little shorter than a Baja Rey 2.0, by roughly .75". The Rey has an open rear which could accommodate for the motor. Do you think a 2.0 Rey cage could adapted to fit? If I made a steel cage it would destroy the body in short order.
These two have potential, maybe to clone as the steel is likely shite. Just crossed my mind. I run in a lot of cold temperatures, below freezing. Plastic cages may be only worth one crash.

Got a start on the chassis side plates...more holes.

Fuel tank skid sticks out a little further but gives added protection.

Added a motor mount brace, needs a bit of refinement yet.

I think I have a metal cage or 2 for mine here somewhere, I know the truck looking cage would need major rework to fit that thing. At least in the rear where you have the rovan mounted. Cant remember who made it, they were only available for a short time. At any rate tour going to have a hell of a time finding a proper body to fit. It's a stretched 1/8 scale. I have one new 79 for super cab body that took ages to find, and cost an arm and a leg. 1/5 scale stuff is too wide and wrong wheel base. Call it what you like, it's a savage xl. They were a bastard sized 1/8.

This is a 1/10 brushless SC 4x4 I put together. The cage is pretty basic but has a good flow to it. The Savage chassis will take more triangulation to.be stronger.

You’ve got some skills there.

If I were you I’d think about doing some true 1/5th scale stuff like Roofchopper or 2 Stroker.

You would have a lot of custom if you brushed it up ok.

Thanks.

Think I will get into 1/5 at some point. If I can get this HPI good and reliable I may pick up a used Baja, Rovan or spring for a Losi. Have a tractor and ample land I plan to build a track on. Good fun with friends and family with multiple trucks.

Well, this is where it starts putting on some weight. Started on the cage, ran out of stock but got the front clip bent up.

just looked through the whole thread, and a bit of advice from me would be keep a close eye on the weight mate,
when building sommat one off the weight can spiral out of control really quick,
brace that chassis cos if the front and rear flexes and the centre shafts are close to being into the cups fully yer gonna bend the shafts if ya have too much flex,
and the spur, i know its been said earlier, but it needs a mount and bearing on the outer side of it,
when the engine applies drive the way you have it its gonna apply a twist between the pinion and spur and at best will wear the gears oddly,
at worst it will strip spurs like nobodys business and/or put massive strain on the bearing at the transmission end and possibly just eat bearing or melt the plastic case,
good luck with it though (y),

Did my best to keep the cage minimal and protect the motor. Still need to finish the mounts and refine some things. I think it resembles an SC to an extent.
