well the fg mt build has gone very well over all im very happy sofar, one one problem ive encounted, the ball ends off the steering rods, one broke so i was still drivng the fg mt off one steering servo and one steering rod, but near end of the 4th tank on friday a had a bad flip and the last steering rod ball end failed, so no steering at all.

this is the part im talking about.

100_0849.webp

the steerin rods are ment to be facing the front of the truck not the rearm but these have split right thru the ball ends, i suspected this to happen since going all alloy

so i will remove another fg rubber o-ring of the alloy servo saver and see how i go as im running 3 now not 4 like fg sugest of the competion mt,s,

if i keep busting them ill look at another set up like what the hpi baja uses for the steering linkage or the sway bar kits, or some thing simular that uses m4 rods

i made a seperate thread on this problem here

i whent thru all my receipts this morning scary stuff >:( not including some ebay stuff ive brought for the truck i havd spent just over $5900 aud including all electrics, radio ( i did have the radio left over from my baja 5b sale) and buying the truck, but not including the g270rc i ran in the truck when i first got it, ouch but still cheaper then a fully hopped up baja 5b.

but the scary part is i need another $1000 aud to finsh the truck for the front hydros, the 4 fold self locking diff, fg alloy front uprights (to replace the elcon alloy uprights) 8 gpm shocks and some other bits and bobs

the truck with a new pained body and all the parts need to finsh the truck it should come in at $7200 + aud, thats around the same price you pay for a fully hopped up baja 5b and still is less then i spend on my old baja

scary stuff when you think about it and i didnt even have over 1/4 of the receipts, ill keep this from my while, as since i havnt been working ive spend bugger all on the truck and i had to sell my g270rc and a few thinkgs to finsh the truck build to where it is now, but thats more then i spent on her 1:1 car :-[

im looking forward to finshing the truck 100% and do every thing i want to to to it, so its 100% finshed then im only paying for repairs and worn out items, but you know how it goes, sofar the build has been good and ive learnt alot and had fun along the way

im not a fan at this stage of 4wd but it would of been cheaper and alot easyer in the long run if i brought a 4wd competion fg mt with hydro brakes front and rear, i would of saved $2500 aud if i had all the money in one hit, but i didnt have all the money in one hit

but for bashing i like 2wd and for fun and less maintaince and broken stuff i like 2wd, but it makes you think, and i would like to think this would be faster and mabe stronger then a 4wd comp modle, but food for thought ???

Hey my friend..it's not about the money..It is the build the way you want to make some thing....Take my junk firehammer when I got it....I rebuilt it and still doing so....
I transformed it in to a Fg..yes just like you maga dollars spent..But the joy of the build that's where at...of course you going to spend more dollars for the way you want it too be
Not every person wants the same thing.......You have done very well with your project
Almost time to sit back and enjoy....I am sure you will want to build some thing else
The building a project is in your blood.............Slawhammer

Building your own car to your specs also makes it unique to you and the car feels like your own....

i enjoy the building and the problem solving just as much if not more then the driving, i get lost once i cant go any further and i feel i taken the car as far as i can go, i had that with the baja 5b, but i think fg will keep me on my toes for a while

its all about the build and the fun, ive realy enjoyed this build, ive done alot of thinks to the truck that are not needed, but i did them cause i wanted to, and i enjoy driving, working on it and looking at fg mt its a beast i cant wait till its 100% finshed.

these are the parts im waiting to buy the finsh the fg mt all alloy with hydro build

that with the new 26cc ported head, the new custom air brushed body and the custom steel roll cage i have coming it should be a nice looking tuff truck that performs well

I love the parts from there....Makes a person drool.....But the shipping is a real
killer...plus the Tax's.....As you know your self..you guys get hammered hard on duty tax
let along to buy local....Every thing has too be imported to your country........
Your project looks good my friend...Slawhammer

yes lots of nice fg stuff to spend out money on, and yes tax can hurt, but so far from europe ive been lucky, i have not had to pay tax, but it all depends on who its shipped with.

orders from the usa are the ones we are more likly to pay tax, its the method used and how they delcair the cost.

if we stay under $1000 aud then we do not have to pay 10% tax, but in saying this sofar ive never had to pay tax on any order over $1000 aud, but some family friedns of mine have had to pay tax on some orders from the usa.

it luck and where you order from, and what side of australia you live, but tps the place where i got my layshaft hydros from, use tnt for shipping, tnt is good for avoiding tax on big orders in australia.

we do have a good fg importer in australia, not many items are listed on his website, but he carries any items, but i have needed part he do not carry so i have been getting the bulk from over seas.

fg isnt very big in australia at all, but there is more then enough sellers and parts to get you by with parts but extra stuff and uncommon itemsyou can not be afraid to order from over seas

well i think if i run my servo saver a bit looser and use these alloy rc4wd ball ends i brought from the usa i should have the problem fixed

I tied the LB 2 shoe clutch..shoes ware out too quick....your project is about done man...
runner and enjoy.....Slawhammer

im lodging my tax tomorow so in a couple of weeks ill be able to buy front hyrdos, a better diff and a few other parts i need to 100% finsh the truck to how i want it i need around another $1200 aud, so watch this space over the next 4 weeks, and ive got a sick ported head and piston coming also so it should be a nicem looking tuff trauck that moves out. im still yet to tune this motor, i might shelf it as a spare

Nice paint job! About what does it cost over there to get the body painted?

Those are some killer ball ends!

this guys charges $25 aud and hour and you pay post to and from, he will also cut bodies out if needed.

so its alot cheaper to get a body done here then its to buy one else where, hes our local pain guro and a mate of mine.

i like the tru flames its better then some of the stuff ive seen around for big $$$

since our dollar is worth less then yours and its cheap to send things from australia to the usa it could even work out cheaper for the usa guys to get paint work done in australia?

the ball ends are good, i stuffed up and orded 2 right hand threadha nd 2 left hand threded ones, thats why they are difrent each end, i thought it would work out better for adjsuting mky twin steering servo set up, but no it didnt work so i taped a new thread into the left hand threads 2 min job.

ive installed them with only 2 rubbber orings on the fg alloy servo saver so i should have no problems this time

All looks cool..I am going to be working on some true flames my self...
Does the servo saver work better with less o-rings?I thought it would be to quick for a responce..like over steering....Slawhammer

well with twin steering servos and 3 rubber orings on the fg alloy servo saver i busted two plastic ball ends on the steering rods, so ill try 2 sice these alloy ball ends will not break and see how it goes on the servos and the steering

That might be somewhat true now but we had better hurry before all our spending catches up in a couple years and inflation sets in. Your dollar may be one to one soon with the US$.:(

Nice deal in my eyes.:cool2:
